Congrats DJ:smile nice notes, especially the Indian ones:whistle:. BTW the $10000 Hell Bank Note in your site is not loading and the name of the Governor in those Indian notes is Dr. Y.Venugopal Reddy. The colonial office can't be Rangoon...lol...Its the capital of Myanmar:hammer: now.
Thanks for the info my books says the R listing behind the serial means it was from the Rangoon office... yes, i do know its in Myanmar, but i cant argue witht he book lol Besides, countries have notes printed in other countries all the time .... So if the R is not for Rangoon... any ideas as to what colonial office it is from? Also, i will look into the hell note... weird how its not loading (unless i forgot to transffer the image to the site lol) Thanks for looking
Daggar..... WOW!!! Those are some great looking notes you added! I really like the Slavic notes as well as the German notes.... The last Russian/Ukraine note is way too cool! Thanks for sharing... RickieB
R stands for Rajkot....Although I'm not very sure about it. I had seen it somewhere but can't remember where.
Thanks Kidradar i will update my info tonight. Any idea when R = Rangoon stopped? Was it the day Myanmar declared independance? or at sometime before or after?
India issued notes for Burma until April, 1947 and for Pakistan till 1948. Here is a link to RBI's history pages: http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/briefhistory.aspx The only time Indian notes were printed overseas was in 2006. I still can't confirm what R really stands for but its anything but Rangoon.
