I just found this one at work. It's a $20 bill and I'm not sure if I can afford to keep saving them. Also the top right corner is colored in with red marker BECAUSE OF SOMEONE HERE! LOL (She's watching me type this so I had to give her a hard time) actually she colors in the top corners for counting reasons on the dispenser. Anyways the serial number is 56605660 Do you think it's a keeper even with the mark on the top corner? Does a note like that bring a premium or just face value? Thanks! Edited to add that I posted a picture of it on post number 5 in this thread.
Most fancy SN notes are very desireable in CHCU or Gem condition... A repeater like this is well liked as well, but the red ink has taken away from the overall condition of the note. Pics would help alot... Tell your friend to find another counting method...LOL RickieB
RickieB....LOL Really it's so when we count the money in the dispenser so that we don't have to count it all (which is alot). We color the end of each strap on the front and back. Just happened to get unlucky and that one was on the top of the strap. I really don't think it's worth anything much. It's not even in perfect condition even without the ink. It's just my first serial number find so I may keep it. Even though like I said saving a $20 is big for me. I already found a 1969 twenty in great condition within the last week and am saving that one too. Wish this repeater was a $1 LOL
even with the color, yes the note will carry a premium. Not as much as if it wasnt colored, but still a keeper!!1 great find!
Here is an updated post with a picture now that I'm home. I was just excited because I've searched through many notes at the bank and this is the first serial number keeper I've found.
Great Find kd. I actually love mutilated notes with great serials because of the fact that my first cool serial that too a RadaR was as mutilated as a note can get without any tears.lol:mouth: Its the worst shaped Indian note in my collection and my most beloved paper treasure. Best of luck with your collection. May the numismatic Gods bless you:mouth:.
USS656 I remember now looking at your collection and all your 5's and 6's. I'm excited because it's my first and I found it on my own just wish it were a $1. LOL Both notes I've found in the last week were 20's.
We have a collector of Chicago Notes here in the fourm.."Urbanchemist" he will be sad to see what happened to that note...ouch, that red ink is really bright! The note has seen some wear but nonetheless, it is a repeater and worthy of keeping!! Great find and thats for sharing the image. RickieB
Is'nt USS656 collection remarkable! To have so many notes with those numbers and the theme Darryl has tied it to makes it even more special! It is just that easy to start a collection...do I see fancy numbers in your future?? :thumb: :thumb: RickieB
I wasn't too happy about the red ink either. If it weren't the first or last note in the strap then it wouldn't have it. Just my luck. By the way how do you know it's a Chicago note? I've read on here some that collect New York notes too. How do you know which it is? Yes the note has wear too. Not in the best condition but made me realize that you can actually find them in circulation. I went through so many notes today just having a feeling I might find something. Like I said it's not a big deal but being my first one I think I'll keep it.
"G7" There are 12 Federal Reserve Banks, they are designated by letters A-L and numbers 1-12. Chicago is #7 (G) Boston is #1 (A) New York #2 (B) Phillie #3 (C) Cleveland #4 (D) all the way through to #12 (L) San Fran Cisco... Pick up any currency book and you will see this right away.. RickieB
Thanks RickieB. I need to get a currency book. Just not sure which ones I want right now. I am so completly new at this.
Schwartz/Lindquist 8th Edition Small Size Currency... Thats what I reccommend for a first book... GOod luck! RickieB
Thanks RickieB. I found that book on Books a Millions site. I have the day off tomorrow so I'm gonna call and if they have it in I'll go get it. If not then I'm going to order it. Thanks again!
Well I think I'm keeping it for now. I hate that it has the red marker on it but it is my first repeater or any serial number find for that matter so I'll probably keep it.
Just Wait till next week And thanks for the compliment It is that easy and it always starts with the first note that peeks your interest... Good Luck and Best Regards ~ Darryl
