Ok...these are both $65....What is the better deal? My first choice the 1944-s Walker PCGS MS-64: Or his competetor, the 1937-D Buffalo MS-65:
This is a no brainer. The best way to complete a type set is get the best possible grade for the cheapest price. This usually means that you are looking for a common date coin that is not conditionally rare. The choice between these two particular coins is the Walker. Numsimedia Wholesale for the Walker in MS64 is $68 and jumps to $500 in MS65 because it is conditionally rare in gem state. The Buffalo is a common date Numsmedia lists wholesale at $55 & $83 for MS65 & MS66 respectively. Why purchase an MS65 when you can get an MS66 for only $30 more. So between these two coins the choice is clear, the Walker. However, I would pass on both for the following reason. You can find much better type coins at a better value for both series. Consider that if you save your money, you can buy a 1938-D Buffalo MS67 for between $200-$250. I would much rather have an MS67 Buffalo in my type set. Also, you can get an MS66 walker in many different dates for $200. Don't settle when building a type set. Save your money and buy the best when you can afford it. Research the common dates and the seek those dates out in the higher grades until you find one that strikes you. JMO, good luck.
i am actually feeling bad about the comem now. that was a great post. Please see i love coins more so ill be still winning the comem
No reason to feel bad as you will be bidding on the wrong coin. BTW, it is at $1500 with Buyers premium and still has not met reserve price. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1116&Lot_No=1153
the spock collection is made up of the right coin and 1153 is not it nice coin but i wouldnt bid on it
stainless - what is the better deal? I'll ask you a question in response....Which one do you like better and will make you happy you bought it? In my mind, that is the only way to answer your question. Collect what you like.
I think the walker is the better deal, but I like the nickel better. So which do you like better? That should make the decision easier. Both are very nice coins.
Pick the coin you like most , but Lehigh is giving you good information too , even if you move up just one grade and pick a PQ coin you'll do better in the long run , I have a feeling the hit on her arm is bugging you , if it is you'll never truly be happy with the coin . rzage
High end for the grade , like a coin that is marked MS-64 , but with 1 less rub it would grade a 65 , PQ is a high end for the grade coin . rzage
NGC puts a star after the grade , I don't know about the others . But a CAC sticker would mean the same , high for the grade . rzage
I like the walker personally design wise but would probably buy the buffalo nickle for my "just for fun" animal coin collection:thumb:
The Walker stainless take if from a fellow Michigander...lollol..IMHO but Lehigh96 give good advice... but a MS 64 is not a slouch to me as far as grade goes..
yeah...that and I'm not sure if I can get myself to pay $150 more for a coin that is two grade higher... that, and I can't go that long without spending my cash..lol stainless
I'd go with the nickel. The WL is a soft strike. No left hand. Only partial lines across the thigh. That and some bag marks made it a -64, and IMO a weak -64. On the nickel the tail is split (good), but weakly. Lots of metal flow lines which is normal for nickel coins. IMO it's an average -65.
PQ=Premium Quality. The NGC star designation only applies to eye appeal and has no relation to whether or not the coin is PQ. The CAC sticker means the good is good for the assigned grade and some people argue whether or not that means PQ. IMO it is all semantics and how you define PQ. For example, if you consider PQ to mean a coin that will upgrade, then the CAC gold sticker means PQ.
