Exactly how hard is it to find these fancy serial numbers? I work as a teller at a bank and I haven't found any. I have seen several stars and then got a 1969 twenty(not a star) in excellent condition that I posted here yesterday I think. And then the $1 error I found awhile back which I also posted here. I'm wanting to find some fancy serial numbers but having a hard time finding any. Just curious how you guys find yours.
Pick up what I can on eBay or from shows or a friend. I got lucky at the last coin show I went to in Dunmore, PA. I came across one dealer who just had one display case with currency. I was able to pick up some stars, pre-1988 notes, an error and a few other notes and get a great deal. I was the only business he had had before lunch.....so I got lucky. He had a multiple error note that he was selling for $75, but since I had my son with me and was showing him things like that I got a really great deal on that note and others. Plus just looking.....I have 2 notes that are semi-solid on the serial numbers - a $5 and a $20 note that have 6 1's in the serial number. I am wanting to find more like it. Smaugy...
Hey Smaugy.... I have 6 $50 Series 2004 star notes that were sold to me from a CT member two years ago....he got these notes from his Credit Union one day and asked if I were interested. In those 6 notes was a reverse repeater..... K01686801* thru K01686806* Those were the only notes that I have that I know were from circulation... BTW..Thank you for the nice comment's. Regards, RickieB
Coinfreak if this is for me my 1969 $20 is not a star note. It just caught my attention because of the great condition that it is in for being so old. I went back and edited my original post cuz I see now how you thought I had a 1969 star.
Most of mine from dealers I have built a relationship with. They know what I like and contact me when they see one they know I would be interested in. It's actually rare to see one on e-bay that fits what I'm looking for.
Great!! Now thats the way to build a quality collection for sure... Darryl, your collection is as unique as they come, it has been a pleasure watching it grow and develop! Keep up the great work Sir! RickieB
Thank you RickieB - Same with yours - it has been a real pleasure to watch it grow!!! Your approach has changes the way I look at collecting notes and coins!
any note that is pulled from circulation takes lots of patience. The more rare notes are rare because they are scarce. If they are scarce, more then likely you have alot of competition looking for the same notes lol so buy bundles from the bank, and lots of them, keep the notes you want, let the others go. the mroe notes you go through, ther better the chance of you finding a keeper
My friend who is a teller told me she pulled a 1928 $2 USN for me on Friday. Hopefully I will have it this Friday or Monday They are out there!
I found a radar in circulation once...before I knew it was "something". Speaking of serial numbers, and trapsing off topic. In the Army we would play "dollar bill poker". Randomly some would would call a "poker check" and every on would look through the singles in their wallet for a poker hand...winner take all I had a full boat 8xx88xx99 (or something like that) that I never spend...oddly nobody wanted to play anymore.
Luck, lol. I'm able to go through a decent amount of money when I want too at the bank I use, so that helps my odds. Other than that, luck. Phoenix
