Hello everyone, Welcome to my 29,000th post celebration thread! Today I did a 5 hour detecting hunt at Prospect Park located in Brooklyn NYC. Here are my finds of US Coins and Misc Items 13 - Clad Quarters 1 - 1943 Silver Quarter 27 - Dimes 1 - 1951 Silver Dime 5 - Nickels 24 - Cents 1 - 1944 Wheat Cent 21 - Crappy Zincolns 2 - Foreign Colombia 100 & 200 Pesos @furryfrog02
The Elongated Cent is in bad shape but it is a tourist item from The Duquense Incline located in Pittsburgh PA
This is a father and daughter detecting duo. They have a YouTube channel. I met them for the first time today. She found 2 silver Mercury Dimes and he found a 1877 Seated Dime and a 1844 Half Dime today. Sorry that I didn't get a shot of the coins.. (I'm in the middle) They are known as the Diggin Duo
Man, I would love to be on the East Coast again, for the early American history. Amazing coins to dig, the seated dime and half dime. Nice score yourself! I have jars of clad quarters, dimes and nickels found metal detecting campsites in New Mex. Only 2 silver dimes
Pretty awesome finds, but they are an excitable duo. Rough digs and rubbing the coins...yikes!! Amazing what the earth holds though. I hope you're having some of that success.
Nice! I went out today and the only thing I found was that the ground is still frozen a couple inches down!
Great finds there. I am also a metal detectorist here in Norway. Been doing it for a couple of years now. As I collect US coin only, it would be cool one day to detect in the USA. The last coin that I found was a 5 øre with only 600.000 copies. I am still waiting to get to my first skilling. That's the coins used before øre and krone. Happy hunting mate
Hi.. Thanks for the question. I myself have not been to places where I can find items like that. The park I visited today was a Civil War camp and my friends have found some military buttons such as Artillery buttons with the letter A on them. I don't think anything Revolutionary though. I found this once but I have no idea what it could be! It is in bad shape.
I don't want you to tell me any secret, but, what part of the country was this hunt in? And, was it an old city park or an old encampment? What kinds of places do you guys go to find that many old coins? It almost seems to be too good to be true.
Ha Ha.. I mentioned it in the first post. Prospect Park Brooklyn NY. I do most of NYC where allowed especially the famous beaches like Coney Island, The Rockaways, Manhattan Beach and Orchard Beach.
Sorry Sorry @paddyman98 I thought you mentioned that you were going out of town and I wrongly assumed you were actually out of your normal stomping grounds.
