Finally got mine. I have to say way to go mint. The coins are flawless. Stunning (as soon as I muscled them out of the packaging.....sheez UPS)

I received my two sets today via UPS as well. I wasn't very pleased with them sitting outside unsecured on my porch all day. The US Mint and the Post Office/DHL need to renew their contract for security/anti-theft if nothing else. Both sets look perfect. No need to send these back. I guess I got lucky twice today.

    2008 Silver Proof

The 2008 Silver Proof set I ordered arrived yesterday.
The quality of this set is horrible. The Kennedy and ALL the other coins have what appears to be tiny scratches or stretch marks like the picture. In this picture the Roosevelt appears to have dark marks all over the figure, but in reality those spots are all shiny spots that were not cameo'ed properly.
The other picture is a part of Jefferson's head, notice the black gunk on it.
Although it is almost impossible to see, there is deterioration on the coin beneath it. There was some of this gunk on the dime and cent.

It makes me wonder how many sets of these coins will be put aside and not checked for quality before the mint's return cutoff date.
This set will go back and I will not reorder from the US Mint again.

I received my set via UPS today. They don't look as good as the 2007s, but they're OK. The dollars are perfect, but the quarter set looks like some dust may have settled on them before they were packaged. It's nothing really distracting, but they're not "perfect" like a proof set should be. Plus, later down the road, the dust on the coins will not be a good thing.

But, they look good enough for me... I'm not going to send them back.

I received mine yesterday...they are pristine! No cracks or scratches...
    Just nice examples....

I think $50 was too much..but the set is for my child.

I don't know about you Slippery but as for me I'd rather have the folks at UPS handle delivery of my mint items. For one thing they'll probably arrive sooner and the system to track shippments is far superior. The DHL boys did a marvelous job and the Post Office is tops in my estimation but the tracking systems are lacking.
As for security, my postal carrier will leave packages at the front door just like the UPS guy...just got to pray that the bad guys aren't watching.

What the heck are the tiny "sunburst" marks all over the half dollar? After seeing JeanKays pics, I went back and looked at mine again and they had the same stuff..... even the 2007s had the same thing as well. Is that from something on the die that gets transfered to the coin during the minting process??? or is it something else. Would those be equivalent to flow lines that are found on a proof or silver proof? I found these same marks on my 71S and 72S silver IKEs proofs.... what a shame too....

i am pretty sure reaction of your coins to the atmosphere could also be a mfg defect i would try to get IS before its too late especially if you didnt see them before

    Hi Jaceravone,
I certainly do not know what the problem is with these coins, but it sure does look as if the defect is in the metal and not on top of it. Every coin in this set is affected on all the smooth surfaces and I cannot see how any of these coins could pass any TPG company's scrutinity.
No more of my money is going to the US Mint directly from me. From now on I will buy from my trusted dealers on the net.
