I have been looking at various forums looking for any discussion in regards to plating issues on 1943 Steel cents.
My question being is there any type of plating errors related to the 1943 cent? I have two coins that look almost toyish in that they do not look like normal steel cents but they still weigh out to the correct amount 2.70 grams.
Thanks in advance for any information.

They were remanufactured/ replated and you can also find them on various website replated too. Check merrick mint as one example of aftermarket plated coins.

Welcome to CT Mike. Take a look at the edges. From the mint the edges were not plated/coated with zinc. It should have a different look/color. With a little wear and hits the things started to rust. That's why folks started to reprocess them.
Some even coated them with copper to sell as a novelty or to trick someone into thinking it was a rare error coin. 1943 was a crazy year for the cent.

I tried to take pics not sure if you get are good enough clarity to tell much. When you have them in hand they look almost like plastic coins but they are metal, hope these will give you an idea.
