It seems there are several of us who have lots of pre-1800 coins...we could keep this theme going about forever. Maybe someone will get tired of our old stuff and dream up a new theme. Meanwhile, I must find another oldie...1541 Malwa Sultans, Mahmud II of Gujarat, AH(9)47, AE falus 1541 Malwa S. 1 f obv.JPG 1541 Malwa S. 1 f rev.JPG

Try something still pre-1800 but not quite so ancient:

This shiny 10th century Islamic coin was dubbed 'Goldilocks' here in our house.

But it is copper, this color is called a 'river patina' I understand. I paid $22 for it.

AE fals Samanids, Mansur b. Nuh (961-976), year 358 AH = AD 969. Mint Bukhara ‘ala yadai Abu Bakr al-Muharrij'. 27.5 mm, 3.23 gr. Looking like gold. Double arabesque over the kalima.

Or how about a Sixpence from Philip and Mary dated 1554:
    Philip & Mary Sixpence S2505 1.JPG Philip & Mary Sixpence S2505 2.JPG
Only two short periods when you get two monarchs on GB coins - this Philip and Mary and then William and Mary in the late 17th century.
Philip was king of Spain and when he married Mary he insisted that as a king in his own right he had the right to be on the coins. This was unpopular with the British people and when Mary died the coinage disappeared very quickly.

The problem with the theme is it takes the date and any other common denominator out of the postings. It is just anything dated pre-1800...not really following the leader...

How about a theme shift to rough coins showing some wear?
