This thread will be the first of several that will celebrate and pay tribute to Anaconda Rare Coins. Earlier this week we learned that Brandon Kelley has started a new coin company. It is also important to note that Anaconda's website went off line earlier this week. Anaconda offered some of the finest rainbow toned coins in existence. In addition, their website and photos were among the finest in the Numismatic world. I was a loyal customer of Anaconda Rare Coins and was devastated when I heard they were going out of business. Hopefully, Brandon will follow the model that made Anaconda successful and make Polaris Numismatics the new king or rainbow toned retailers. In each thread I will post a group of rainbow toned coins from the same denomination. Each coin will be one of the finest toned coins I have ever seen. Following the photo, I will attempt to catalog and describe each coin shown. Although, I downloaded the photos, I did not include the TPG and grade in the file names and therefore don't know the actual grades of many of the coins. This should be interesting since we can then debate the grade of each coin. If I own any of the coins shown, I will include that information as well. I will also attach a poll with each thread so that the cointalk members can vote for their favorite toned coin of each denomination. The first group will be CENTS. All photos courtesy of Anaconda Rare Coins CENTS 1837 Matron Head Cent Medium Letters MS?? RB: I don't actually know the grade of this coin or the TPG. And while one can question the originality of this coins toning, nobody can question it's beauty. A spectacularly toned large cent with blushes of lime green, magenta, and violet on the obverse. The reverse is even more dramatically toned with the same colors that seem to frame the center. 1857 Flying Eagle Cent MS??: I have no idea how to grade this coin. Weakly struck? Grease Filled Die? I guess someone else will have to describe this one. Either way, a very pretty coin. 1881 Indian Head Cent Proof?? BN: Irresistable obverse target toning of lemon yellow, lime green, electric blue, magenta, and orange yield to a tan and red center. The reverse is more evenly toned in shades of tan and aqua with rainbow peripheries. 1897 Indian Head Cent NGC PF66* RB CAMEO: Vivid shades of magenta, pink, and yellow envelop both sides of this beautiful coin. The reverse shows a very pretty swath of emerald green and the cameo effect on this coin is gorgeous. Both PCGS and NGC combined have only graded 9 cameo examples for this date from an original mintage of 1,938, and this specimen is the only cameo graded by NGC. This coin has population of 1 with two finer, and neither of the higher graded coins even approach this coin in terms of eye appeal. In a nut shell, this coin is the most attractive 1897 cameo proof in existence. I purchased this coin from Anaconda in December of 2006. 1882 Indian Head Cent NGC MS66 RB: The term monster with respect to toning is frequently overused. However, this piece provides collectors with the standard by which all other toned IHC's will be judged, a true monster in every respect. The lime green toning seems to surround the obverse devices giving it an almost CAMEO appearance. The remainder of the obverse is toned in vivid magenta and violet while the reverse is impressively toned in shades of magenta and orange. 1883 Indian Head Cent NGC MS?? BN: Absolutely mindblowing toning covers both sides of this bold gem. A melange of orange, royal blue, green, magenta, and lavender make this one of the most attractive Mint State IHC's anywhere. 1924-D Lincoln Cent MS?? RB: Gorgeous toning of green, teal, magenta, and tangerine blanket the obverse of this semi key Lincoln. The reverse is equally impressive in more subdued toned of green, orange, and violet. 1941 Lincoln Cent NGC MS65 RB: Vivid Neon shades of lime green, yellow, pink, magenta, and violet jump off of this unbelievably attractive wheat cent.
Let me be the first to say; those truly are beautiful coins and I would be absolutely thrilled to own any of them. I especially like seeing that 1924-D Lincoln. You can't go wrong with a toned semi-key date. I bet that sucker sold for a lottt of money.
Wait until you see the nickes, dimes, quarters, and halves. I will do a thread a week so we have time to see how the polls play out.
Tough between the 81' and the 24-D. All sweet coins. I look forward to seeing Brandon at LB and to drool on his Allstates !!
They are all beautiful coins. I chose the '97 proof cuz I like the way that it's evenly toned on both sides. Creeping right up behind it are the "83 & "82, in that order. IMO the '83 is truly a toned gem.... John
I gotta re-pre-ZENT for the 1837 Large Cent. No, it doesn't have the most outrageous toning when compared to the other coins in the OP. However, of all the coins in the OP, it has the most outrageous color when compared to others of its own kind. 170 years old, still plenty of mint red, plus rainbow ? **-hoochie MAMA-** Yeah, there's a chance you'll pay a premium to land that one ! heh But they are all fabulous coins. No losers in this bunch.
Would anyone care to venture a guess as to which coin was the most expensive. I don't remember the exact prices of all of the coins, but I do remember the top four.
The 1897 is mine and I paid more than PCGS price guide for it. However it is not first, and not close to the most expensive. Here is a photo of the 1897 in the holder. Hold on to your hat. If this coin ever turns in the holder, I am going to be really upset.
Wow, those are sure some nice coins. I have always enjoyed looking at their auctions and drooling. I'm so sorry to hear that they are going out of business.
All of them are stunning coins, I'm going to vote for the 1897 PF66* even though I can't take my eyes off the 1924 D or the 1881. Very cool coins. Bruce
I realize these are not anaconda's coins, but here are a couple that fit right into this topic. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ultra-Wild-Neon...ryZ39457QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and al-be-it way over graded http://cgi.ebay.com/Wonder-Coin-The...yZ139805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
