I can't answer the question because my crystal ball is on the fritz.

That's a question that an investor would ask. Most of us here are collectors, not investors.

There has been a nice run in price appreciation from 2002-3 to current. There have also been market swings as well in both directions. As for bullion, what I am assuming you are talking about, some say the best is to come....for me I sold back in the height of the silver and gold run up several months ago.....

Playing the metals is a crap shoot....you can win and you can loose.
Silver was best at 4.25 oz a few yeras ago....

If you are thinking long term [i.e., five years or more], this is probably a good-to-great entry point. You might also notice that it is difficult to buy silver coins near the spot price these days. Physical silver seems to be a bit more scarce than paper silver -- a good sign for the long run price.

Paper silver is the Act of buying contract such as put's and call's...this is Options trading and it is very very risky! Do not touch a snake even if you cant hear the rattles....

All silver paper contracts are not options and or futures. You can buy silver certificates for delivery through most major brokerage houses. From what I hear if you demad delivery on your contracts... you could be waiting quite some time before you 100 bars arrive.

    Howdy,

I can hardly speak for you, but I've been buying physical gold and silver all summer and have increased my purchases over the past couple of weeks as the price went lower.

I plan to continue to accumulate, although I'm doing it in a bit of an odd way.

I've got a bunch of ASE's and buy a roll each year. I've got some 10 oz. name brand ingots and some prospectors. I have a set of ASE and Maple Leafs in Dansco albums. I'm also starting to put together a collection of various silver crowns - both modern and older. Lately I've been buying 90% US coinage as the premium is lowest.

In gold, I've got some AGE and Buffalos but have been putting together a collection of the gold bullion coins - both modern and older. Most of the modern stuff is 1 oz. but the older stuff is mostly 1/5 and 1/4 sized like sovereigns and helvetias. And I'm buying Swiss Helvetias on a regular basis.

    peace,

    rono

Whatever you do with PM's I would advise holding on to them for the long term, at least 5 years. Do not invest in PM's, rather think of them as an insurance policy you will only call on if absolutely necessary. I bought the majority of the AG at 4.5 and then 6.5, the latter just a couple of years ago.

As RickieB points out, there are wild swings in the market, you cannot forecast everything that is going to drive the price. A lot of the time the swings are caused by political events, economic events etc. So just think in the long term, because otherwise you would pull your hair out trying to predict what is up. And think of it not as an investment, but only as an insurance policy.

that's what I tought....pretty good time to buy silver

    Hey thanks guys & gals~

I see we do have some investors on here lol.

I buy both numismatic and bullion. I try to buy more bullion 90% Junk Silver and Sae's. I try to invest at least $150 a month. I'll keep buying while the silver spot is between what it is now and no higher than $18.50

My local coins shops try to sell Sae's as if they were numi's telling me if they have a date stamped they are collectable??

I have a 5 yr old son who loves to hold my coins so i prefer to buy half-dollars, mercury dimes and quarters so he can handle them and I dont have to worry about him dropping them.

A very scary way to buy silver right now. If it's not in hand while I'm handing over the cash I want nothing to do with it.

The only silver I've been buying as of late is the "junk" variety that tends to carry a numismatic premium as well.

I agree. I rarely even look at the daily quotes anymore, mainly because they don't determine whether I'll buy or not. Granted, it's always nice when silver is down because my money buys a lot more. But, I buy it to have it, not to sell it, so my opinion may not be of much use.
