I picked up both of these tonight. One from Heritage and the other I had been watching on eBay for some time and finally decided to pull the trigger. I really loved the eye appeal of both coins.

( The gouge between the M and H, along with the Dots on the top of the eights in the date make this coin easy to differentiate) You won it from a buyer named A*******ns2, isn't that correct? I won't comment on the price, other than to say you paid more than I would have , but that happens all the time. As for the seller, I have purchased from him many times, and have always been happy with the transaction. He has well over 13,000 sales and a 99.99 % rating. I consider him trustworthy. To me, his biggest fault is that, with not so well known foreign coins, he sometimes lists copper-nickel coins as silver coins. When I consider bidding on coins I'm not so familiar with I always look them up on NGC and/or Numista, and whenever I find he made a mistake I will message him and he will immediately correct his listing. I think both coins look nice. The Heritage has numerous, of what appears to be, die breaks on it. As they say "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder", so those breaks only matter to whoever is looking at the coin, and obviously, you like the coin, and that is what matters. The eBay coin, with it's missing denticles and rims, and the several dings to the rim going along the left side, could give many viewers, including Hiddendragon, a good deal of pause to reflect on the causes. My best guess, and this only a guess, is a combination of wear and a very poor strike at the mint, with it being more the strike than the wear. One side has denticles perhaps 3/4 of the way around and the other side has very few denticles. Again, this coin is an example of the need for a resource listing coin types and pairing them with members who have the most expertise with those types. That would be an enormous help to know who to call on for knowledgeable opinions. Let's try these guys, they had answers on the Chop marked 8 Reales last week. @Marsyas Mike @Bardolph
Hi Dragon, I have no definitive explanation for the lack of denticles on this coin, but after some cursory research consisting of looking at every 8R coin marked Mo MH sold on eBay since late December of 2019, I found that almost every one of them is missing most, if not all, of their denticles. This leads me to believe that the missing denticles is due more to the strike than to anything else, unless there's something wrong with the dies. Again, I'm only guessing.
Actually I have no idea who that seller is. I bought both these coins yesterday (as stated in the original post) along with 2 others. 2 from Ebay and 2 from Heritage. I look at it this way based on your statement. What one person will pay for a coin is in the eye of the beholder. I paid what I would except for it. I found both of these coins appealing. I have also seen many without denticles before.
Wow, I really like the 1888, the eagle and surrounding fields are lovely. Admittedly not my series, but very, very nice. Unfortunate stereotype buy quality control was not always such a highlight and not surprising at all about the denticles.
Yes They are not really my series. I used to have a few nice examples but unfortunately I sold them long ago. No clue how long these will hang around in my group.
