Some other shots of Palembang tokens. I probably have about two hundred that I have not fully sorted out and identified using the Frank Robinson publication. Very few varieties.

This one looks like copper or brass but I'm convinced it's tin

There's some great contrast in these! I bought a thousand Palembang pitis and looked through them a year or two back. Definitely tedious but it was a fun time and I found dozens and dozens of distinctly unique and unlisted varieties.

1789 CE (1203 AH) Tin Pitis Sultan Muhammad Bahaudin '.jpg
    Palembang Sultanate
Dated 1789 CE (1203 AH) but likely produced for some years after
    Issued under Sultan Muhammad Bahaudin
Contemporary counterfeit, displays crude and illegible Arabic
Unlisted but most similar to FSR#9.50

1789 (1203 AH) Tin Pitis Sultan Muhammad Bahaudin.jpg
    Palembang Sultanate
Dated 1789 CE (1203 AH) but likely produced for some years after
Date incorrectly reads "023" rather than "1203"
    Issued under Sultan Muhammad Bahaudin
    Contemporary counterfeit
    Unlisted variety of FSR#9

275-282 WS Visvasimha (1).jpg 470-800 Post Gupta (9).jpg I will have to remember to consult you guys if I come up with any more tin pitis. I have a number of coins of this sort Gupta and Post Gupta (ca. 400-800 AD), also Western Satraps (~200-400 AD).

I need to get myself a better Western Satraps sometime here but until then this one will do. As horrendous the obverse is, I do like the reverse.

I must say, this thread has presented some mighty interesting coins in the last few days, many from the areas that are close to my numismatic heart, like the Qarakhanids, Samanids and other Central Asian dynasties and periods.

The Samanids issued some models of harmony in their day (the 9th and 10th century AD), like this copper fals of the year 280 AH = 893/894 AD. Large, thin coins closely following Abbassid examples. (By the way, a handy calendar converter for the Christian and Islamic calendars might be found here at Zeno, the great Oriental Coins Database.

    AE fals Samanids, Ismail b. Ahmad (892-907), Samarqand, 280H = 893 AD. 25 mm, 4.51 gr.

I've got two of these lovely things, I love the bull depiction. One of them also has a killer blue-grey patina.

    Tin Pitis; 0.46g 13mm
