Is there much interest in German 5 and 10 DM commemorative coins from the 1980's and 1990's

I like them. I have quite a few of the silver ones. I got them all for melt. I only have one of the clad. Those I'm not as interested in. I really like them for the different eagle designs.

Here's a few of my favorites (I really need to take better pictures):

From what I've seen and experienced on ebay, they don't tend to sell for much, if any, over melt.

I'd agree with the furryfrog02; these don't seem to generate a ton of collector interest. There are just too many of them (and too many mints) to quickly assemble a type or type/mintmark set. Some of the designs are, frankly, just ugly (with some exceptions, e.g. ff02's first coin). They generally have a shallow relief, and, given the low silver purity, they often tend to develop unattractive toning.

That said, if you find them cool, they are a great way to assemble a nice and varied set of largish silver coins without paying much of a premium over spot.

You can head over to germany and get them exchanged for euros if you really don't know what to do with them... or try at a coin show for a touch more.

They were inherited along with a large collection of coins from all over the world. I have no interest in them at all. My wife is going to Germany in May so probably do what you suggest
