I found this penny yesterday whilst detecting, conditions were a bit tricky so I'd dug what I thought was a big enough hole to extract the find without hitting it with the spade, as you can see on the reverse I failed in this! I'm hoping it's 'not' the scarcer type, so over to you as I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to be looking for! Thanking you all in advance.
Not bad for a metal detecting find! Judging by the lump of metal attached to the upper part of the top colon after "D" on the obverse legend, it appears this is obverse 6. This is the common variety (2-G) for the year.
Nice find @clanger. You must detect frequently and this find was saved from the plow to be enjoyed. Thanks for the post, and nice photos.
Usually coppers are either to worn to make anything out or totally corroded, I've never found one in this condition before, shame I caught it with the spade!
Thank you for that. I get out when I can. Think it was lucky the coin was in a corner of the field, so the plough kept missing it, shame my spade didn't!
Little if any circulation wear that I can see. I'd suggest a nice long soak in distilled water to loosen and remove the dirt.
