Hello, My intention is not to promote or sell anything, feedback is what I am hoping for... I mostly post on the ancient coin forum as that is where I got my start in the coin collecting hobby as a history buff, I am a wildlife artist by trade though and thought, hey, why not try putting some of my art on coins and see what happens. I'm not sure from a modern coin collectors standpoint what I've done with this item even appeals to the coin collector per-say, (colorized art on Silver Eagle) where one would consider this item an investment in the present & future holding or if it simply qualifies as a niche collectable item that Wolf loving individuals are drawn to, which narrows the field quite a bit. Seeing what I have attached here, how would I go about making this coin appeal more so as an investment item that a coin collector would be interested in, or are colorized coins just another nifty gimmick that really have no place in the thought process of a modern coin collector/investor...?? I got into coin collecting because I was pulling the silver coins out of circulation. I stayed because of the history and an appreciation of the artistic design. To me, colorized or painted coins are a big turn off because they were never apart of the history of money and they are basically an alteration by an individual making them more of a novelty item. I'm sure their are collectors of them, it's just not for me.
Did you paint all 500 of those SAE's by hand or did you use a computer program to "copy" each one? If each is a copy, then your art is no different than many others who have attempted to market similar "pieces of art". To a numismatic purist, all you have done is damage each coin, and I've found dozens of examples floating around in circulation over the last few decades. The people who were misled into thinking that they were an investment were sorely disappointed. ~ Chris
It is a striking design to be certain. Thing is, I am a long time ASE stacker. I will pay a small premium simply because the silver round is an ASE. I will not pay a premium for a slab, a proof strike or any other accoutrements. However there are folks out there that would appreciate the piece for the art. And if only 500 pieces will be available, I would most imagine you won't have any problem finding 500 buyers. I don't think the artwork will ever translate to to an investment mindset though.
Impressive artwork, Steven. My thoughts are that if you were to have a series of these coins, "hidden" animals on each one, with the wolves being the first, there might be a larger market, albeit a small one as @idhair said. @cpm9ball's question is a good one, but I'm assuming that it would have been impossible for you to do all 500 individually. Still, I'm impressed. There's still a market for the paintings of the female artist that "hid" animals in her artwork...the name escapes me...only one cup of coffee yet this morning. Steve

Just as "Art of Coins" ( paintings or drawings on canvas) usually have a low popularity and almost no real "art" return in profit, some people do like them. But sales would be limited in numismatic sources and many would only buy if the silver value was the main price consideration. There are several firms who do this for various organizations to sell on their subscription drives. I do not have any at all, and never considered one painted for art value. My son does enjoy collecting silver coins that have been modified structurally and of course country issued coins of fantasy. The thought is to have a series, I've done the artwork 25 or so hidden image designs, just wondering if it is feasible translating them onto coins??? Steven
As a collector of ancient coins, I would never consider defacing one, and certainly would not purchase, however Modern coins (manufactured by the millions) with no other intrinsic value other than the silver content, to an artist it is simply another unique form of surface in which to display our work (and hopefully add some additional value for others)...
