I picked this one up a few weeks ago on Heritage, and was wondering what you guys would think about it.

How do clashed dies usually affect the price of a coin? It didn't really make a difference to me, as I think this is a beautiful Walker either way. What do ya'll think?

I'm still learning the whole photobucket thing, so if you want closer pics I can probably get them.

I'm surprised they mentioned "clashed dies" on the slab. Normally, they only mention "problems" on the slab, and clashed dies are not "problems".

Clashed dies usually have little effect on price. Some specialists consider them collectible in their own right; they're interested in die states (not to be confused with die varieties, which are highly collectible).

For some, clashed dies are distracting so they'll offer less, but it's not a big deal for most.

Some series are notorious for clashed dies (gold dollars come to mind).

And 19th century coins are rife with clashed dies.
I've got a fair number of them that I didn't even know I had until I started imaging them.
At 600 to 1200 dpi it's easy to see.

You know, I'm kind of surprised that they mentioned it too. Mainly because there's nothing too distracting on it. Granted, I don't have this coin in hand (its waiting for me back in the states), but I do have the close-up shots from Heritage. Here's some closer shots:

Sorry I'm still new to resizing and posting pics...:rolling:
The main thing I see is maybe some lines to the right of the eagle. The obverse looks pretty darn clean to me.

I like coins with clash marks. They show a little personality.

If someone asks, and pays for it - they'll mention it.

Ah I see. That clears a few things up. So if someone asks for a specific error or VAM or whatever, and the coin doesn't actually have it or has a different one than is asked for, what happens then? I can't imagine the TPG looking around for a different VAM.

They will, if you ask them to attribute the coin and pay for the service, they'll do it.

That said, NGC and PCGS will only attribute some of them. PCGS will only attribute those found in the Red Book. NGC does a few more. ANACS will do any of them.
