Has anyone received a counterfeit bill in change? What denomination was it and what type of business did you receive it from? Also, What steps did you take when you found it? Just curious
My wife got this note at the bank when she cashed her check around Christmas time. She then went to Amscot for a money order and they're the people that spotted it.The guy pushed it back through the slot and told her it was no good.Of course she knew I would like it, especially since we have never gotten 1. A $1 counterfeit note and I keep asking myself, Why would you risk jail time for a buck? Unless they passed a couple of thousand of them.Who really looks at a dollar ? The color is off and the close up shows the poor quality. At least it's only a buck and not a fifty or a hundred. It's the top note in the comparison pics but I think you all can tell. John
we get new style 10's and 20's all the time at work. some 100's also. usually they are really bad color copies. i have never seen anyone waste there time with a $1 dollar bill. every once and a while we get one that is pretty good. we send them right out to the feds:hammer:
One time I cashed my paycheck and received a counterfeit $20 bill. I didn't realize it until several days later when I went back to the bank to deposit it. The teller caught it and, of course, I had to give all my information to the bank for the Secret Service. I informed the bank manager that I had received the bill from their bank only a few days earlier. The manager trusted me and credited my account twenty dollars.
I received a decent $10.00 counterfeit bill in change from my local bar. I probably would have noticed it if I wasn't leaving the bar at 1:30 in the morning. I just grabbed my change and shoved it in my pocket. I was about to go into a gas station to buy something and I pulled the change out and immediately noticed the difference in paper thickness and ink on front of bill was not quite the same color. I already notified the bar owner where I got it from and he was willing to exchange the fake for a real ten, but I told him I would keep it and just add it to my collection of paper. So, it is out of circulation. I will post a picture soon.
NO but i sold my boat on craigs list the guy sent a counterfeit check Before i cashed it i asked if thay will be able to determine well it wasn't that closed my account I had for ten years be aware
Here is the counterfeit $10 that I got in change. I didn't look at my change closely when I left the bar so I didn't notice the odd color or feel the paper.
it looks like its been out there for a while . how does a person benifit ? Using it it change or or curculate it with other counterfit .how old do you think it is?
It does look and feel as if it has been circulating awhile. I suppose it gets you a few rounds of free beer.
tuck it away, throw it away, or turn it in to a local bank - but whatever you do, please dont try to pass it off at the local store to recover your lost $10. Or - give it to a CT collector
In Colombia, I frequently came across counterfeit $500 and $1000 peso coins. Normally I would catch them as someone tried to give them to me in change and I would ask for different coins. The $1000 peso coins got so bad that the Colombian government stopped making them and switched to $1000 peso notes. For reference, that would be similar to printing 50¢ banknotes here in the US. For the paper money, I carry a small 365 nm UV Penlight with me. Almost got caught with a $5 from a gas station in Florida. Cashier was a little upset that I refused the bill and claimed she couldn't exchange it because she closed her drawer. I told her that wasn't my problem and I was getting ready to call the police on the cell phone when the manager heard what was going on, came over, and swapped the bill for me.
