Ok folks so I bought a few quarters today. Six to be exact. The three pictured 1932 Washington,, 1898-S Barber and 1909-O Barber. Also picked up 3 Standing Liberties which are no problem G4 coins. Dates are 1925, 1926-S and 1928-D. Paid $4 each. Here's the first batch. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0001-12.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0002-10.jpg Now, as you can see the 32 is pretty nice. The 09-O is not full G4 and has some scratches. The 98-S is just well worn. So why would I buy them and would you? I bought them because the Barbers are tougher dates, especially the 09-O. Figure they would be nice hole fillers for someone well under retail but I could still recoup a few bucks. Toss in the 32 and I'm alright. Should put me at paying less than spot for the SLQs IF I choose to sell anything. Sometimes I do this. How about the rest of you? clembo
Absolutely would haved done it.....ANY deal that grows your collection w/o spending your own money is a good one.
What would I do? :secret: I wouldn't have the patience to await the flip/payoff. I am selling any junk silver or low grade better dates I have so I have cash for stuff I really want. But, Clembo, if you want to build your hoard (or dealer inventory ), it doesn't matter what we think!
Yes - I would buy them. At the same time I would not flip them - I like nice plain average coins like this. I do not need MS stuff all the time. I am just as happy with a problem free coin in AG to F. You saw that bust dime I bought - I bid on that auction because it was cheap and specifically for that coin.
Good points by both of you. I'm dabbling with the Barber quarters and building some inventory at the same time. My third 09-O actually. When I can get them cheap I do basically. Best examples of any date will be mine. Sometimes as high as F12. Others will be sold eventually but in no hurry. All of my 14-S are staying home for now. I do a bit of selling Catbert but not to flip in most cases. If I have it and someone needs/wants it I'll sell. Mark, I actually have narrowed my "want" lists down to higher grade coins for the most part. Sure doesn't mean I don't appreciate ANY example. At times I sell to raise money for a coin I really want but in the meantime I try to keep one example of what I want in my collection. Heck. We all love coins is the bottom line we just go about it differently. clembo
