Looking through my Lincoln and I chanced on this 1982 S proof, under the microscope It looks like a S over (P) D so I thought I'd post it just to make surewhat do you think.Regards Harry
Im not good at these either, but in the 1st, picture, the leftmost point of the 'S' shows a seriff that is not connected... but i could be wrong helpful aint I
For the sake of argument let's say that it is some type of doubling. It simply can't be anything but another S mark. Even in 1982 the San francisco mint would not have had any other mint marks at their facility. I'm pretty sure on this but there could always be some weird factor that I'm not considering.
This is one very unusual mint mark and I probably won't ever know what it is,thanks for your help all, regards Harry
First of all, Welcome to the forum! As far as your 82 S, I would agree with budgood it would seem to be Mechanical Doubling, but very interesting being a proof.
What about S/D/S this could be a possibility couldn't it,I read that there could be a 1981 D over S and I know it's only speculation or could even be a die chip so whom do you send it to just to make sure It's not a Die chip, mechanical doubling or OMM regards Harry
