I don’t know what was your opinion and experience with this sales. Some win at cheap prices and some at crazy prices like x6 or x7 the estimate for stunning coins. Of course many win around 2 to 3 times the estimates.

I decided not to bid this time as I need to see with CNG how to reduce shipping. I live in Europe so if I win a 200 usd coins + 18 % it cost me for shipping 40 usd + 10 % at least for custom taxes suppose. It is far less expensive for you winners living in US.

Anyway what aéré you feeling and feedback on this auction?

CNG has a reputation for gaining strong bids compared to many auction houses. If you look at their closed auctions over the years you will see many realized prices way over the "estimate". I believe many of the estimates CNG uses is simply a starting point (60% of estimate)for the coin. Some of the winning bids did surprise me but the bidders who won coins in this auction, I'm sure feel like their win was worth every penny.

You can ask CNG to ship via the UK so they import your coins there and you pay 5% import tax. If you ship directly to Belgium, the import tax is 6% but you will pay bpost 30€ to handle the customs formalities on your behalf. Ups charges 17€ to handle customs. You can also ask CNG to keep your wins and group in one shipment. I really find CNG are good professionals, very customer oriented, and from time to time you can get very good deals from them. In case something goes wrong (coin lost, coin proven to be tooled or fake) you will get a refund quite easily. I prefer to buy from them despite the import overhead, it is worth it.

Low estimates encourage bidding, that's all there is to that. It's a trick many auction houses use.

I paid last time 40 USD shipping but now I understand why surely it include to do all with the custom from me. You are right they invoice me 6 % for the import taxes too. I will see with them how to combined shipping next time they are indeed very kind at their US HQ.

I solved this problem by moving to Lancaster County, PA. Now when I win coins at CNG I just drive by their office and pick them up.

I didn't participate - didn't know about it in fact. What's the best clearinghouse of knowledge for upcoming auctions? Right now I get emails from vcoins about auctions and something called emaxbid.

My father was born in Poland, but his father died, my grandmother married a Belgian man and they moved the family to Brussels. My father was still a boy at the time, so he easily learned to speak both French and Flemish. He even knew a few sentences in Walloon, which always made my aunt angry when he spoke them. I never really understood why. I guess she hated the sound of Walloon.

The weather seems to be a lot like England. Wet most of the time. But I do like Belgium otherwise.
My son was stationed in Poland when he met and married his current wife. Now, like I said, they live in Belgium. My grandson, now 4 years old, speaks Polish with his mother, English with his father, and French at school. Young minds!

Yup, that's what our family gatherings have always been like. Conversations in a mishmash of Polish, French, and English.

I had my eye on a Titus sestertius, but lost track of time and forgot to bid. I haven't checked to see how much it hammered for.

I did not know about the auction and the coins were most likely out of my price range. Would have been nice to ogle them though :)

Numisbids.com is very similar, and also lists just about every upcoming auction at least a month in advance.
