Alright as I'm sure a few of you know I ordered an uncleaned lot of 10 roman coins from Forvm a few weeks back and have been cleaning them as best I can, and I finally feel they are acceptable to at least show to you guys. **Note none of these have been attributed yet as I've been focusing my attention on cleaning the inscriptions as best I can. first up here is a show of the whole lot togather (lil dark I know just for some size comparison) http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown014.jpg first one looks to be a constantine http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown024.jpg and its reverse http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown015.jpg This next one still has some work to go on it before its totally finished http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown053.jpg and its reverse http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown052.jpg Claduis II Gothicus (20mm) with alter reverse? http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown048.jpg and its reverse http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown049.jpg This one i had to be rather careful with as there is a large crack in the edge heading inwards so being forceful when cleaning wasn't an option **edit** Constans( 342-348AD) AE4 (possible RIC 107? two victories standing facing holding wreaths and palm branches) http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown016.jpg and its reverse http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown037.jpg and finally this has recently become my all time favourite coin since I was finally able 2 see the bust last week. Its quite thick as well which prob lead to my appreciating it more then the thin ones lol http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown050.jpg and its reverse http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l452/darkfenix20/unknown051.jpg well hope you enjoyed seeing these as much as i have cleaning em up
Hi Number 3 is a posthumous issue of Claudius II Gothicus, similar to this: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sear/s3228.html#RIC_0261 The obverse legend is "Divo Claudio" Your last coin is a Roman provincial - my guess is Elagabalus from Nicaea http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/elagabalus/_nicaea_AE23_RecGen_571v.txt http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/elagabalus/_nicaea_AE23_RecGen_571v.jpg The second looks like Constantine the Great, but those 5th century coins are easier to ID as soon as you get the inscription right. ha i thought so to thanks randy i'm actually saving to get the alexander the great coin you have as ur avatar with heracles (sp) on it
I just got it today though it hurt me to buy it, and I could have gotten alot of uncleaned coins instead of it Now I gota save up for an athens tet lol. gona be a while for that though.
ha hate to ask but how much did you spend on it cuz i've seen them range from 100-1,000 lol and yours looks pretty decent and yeah uncleaned is def fun but def sumthing special about some of those famous rulers and their coins
i'd say so i was scanning through the vcoin dealers for one and only saw a few i might be able 2 afford by oct ish lol (120170 mark for me)
well if the ones ur talking about are the ones shown in 99 for one lot then they look good enough for me but I hate buying from a lot and not knowing if both sides will be decent
ha for sure i dunno what the odds are of it happening but i'd imagine its like winning the lottery? lol especially a nice example of one
ha well i'd be more then happy with silver but gold...i'd be getting a pro to finish cleaning it lmao:mouth:
