Well this coin was body bagged by PCGS for questionable color but,it obviously is high end none the less . So what would you grade it ? Do you think the color questionable ? Althogh I could not pick it up there are a few hues of rose & lite green tone on the reverse. I dont care what PCGS says this is my fovorite coin for this week !
Au55 - looks like a lot of luster break in the fields. Color (if the photos are true) does look a bit orangish. Perhaps one of the fellow forum members could point out what type of chemical cleaning might do that.
Who cares what PCGS says about that coin. That is one coin that has awesome eye appeal that anyone would love to own. Tom
I'm probably sticking my neck out but I don't see any wear on this coin. MS60 (but I want to say 63...great looker).
I can't make out the diamonds so I'll say XF 40. If the diamonds are present and clear I'll say AU55. It may be the photo but I don't see the problem with the color. It's a keeper. Bruce
Looked at it again, I think I see slight wear on the reverse, so I'll say AU-55, Au-58ish? My opinion doesn't really matter that much, lol, but still, that's a beautiful coin, ? color or not! :thumb: Phoenix
Really hard to tell from the pictures - I would say MS details and yes the color does look off to me(based off the pictures). Still a very nice coin.
Obverse-4 diamonds, full liberty. Reverse- The wreath and arrows are in great shape, lines on shield great shape. No rim nicks, Very minor scratches, very minor wear. Not sure if the denticles are a proof or business strike. Color is a little off, the coin may have been cleaned, the color is lighter around all the lettering and date on the obverse which may be an indication of a prior cleaning. Send it to ANACS. Sweet 1877. I like it. MS range.
Although the coin is AU, IF it were to slab, I would guess 63RB as a market grade. That is worth a retry at least one more time, they do slip thru, but only you can see the color, all we can see is pics. It is a very nice coin. For the $30+, I resend.
I say the coin is AU53/55 somewhere in there. In the pictures as they are I see the slightest amount of wear on the highpoints, otherwise phenominal coin
I always thought genuine 1877 Indian cents came with weakly struck backs , could this one be a fake ? rzage
MS details, recolored, net XF. The pictures don't show me if there is luster imparement or toning in the fields, and I can't see rub but assume it must be there given the lack of cartwheel on the coin. So I was torn between AU and MS details.
It does have some of the characteristics of weak strike - look at the center of the shield lines towards upper right corner. I think it is genuine - not sure what was done to the coin.
Always thought the weakness was in the N of one and the EN cent , I mean really weak , could be wrong though . rzage:hatch::hammer:
Well I have not heard about that specifically. And all I know about the N is that the business strike coins have a shallow N in ONE, proofs a bold N. It seems to me that out of all the ones I looked at One Cent seemed to be the best struck area, with usually softness in the shield and some areas around the wreath and bow. On the obverse it was the feather details and ribbon.
Let me ask you Jason, does the color of the coin match that in the pics ? If so, I'd agree with PCGS on that count. As for grade, AU details I'd say.
