If I assume room temperature before I sell, in my will I have specified that the coins be appraised and auctioned off according to the executor-who knows something about coins. We have all heard the horror stories of the son who took his deceased Dad's collection to a pawn shop.
I hope to break the code of the pawned collection gift. Except my wife was the recipient. I would like to continue the collection as just that. My wife sees $$ but I see more than that. It's really not the treasure chest that most folk percieve, although there may be value to some. I admit to some disappointment when I saw the wholesale values of the collection. If I heard the clink of a pre-1965 coin in my change, I thought I had something. Dad-in-law bought some nice pieces that he wanted in his lifetime. This is something I never would have been able to discipline myself to maintaining. To me coins are far superior to my mom's Hummels that she collected, or my Aunt's cow collection.
