I was a bit grouchy today, for no particular reason, but when I got home from work I found this itty bitty AE from Nicopolis ad Istrum for Septimius Severus in the mail - 3 stars and a crescent and I just had to smile: (but my smiley has a nose).

This coin always makes me happy. Many years ago, Dave Surber from Wildwinds told me that «it may even be made of silver from Salomos temple. And if not, it definitely has been part of the payment for the Colosseum.» What more can you expect of a coin? I like to hold it in my hand and think of that.
