I guess I will never live down supporting @Michael777, at least at first, based on a principle near and dear to my heart.

I will be posting soon a new thread about eBay "bait & switch" die variety scammers. I got taken, and have declared war on them. Warning about them on a forum is ONLY the FIRST step. I am now playing with these "bait & switch" artistes' heads, bringing them to eBay's official, human (non- algorithm) attention within the rules of the negative feedback process and dispute resolution process.

My goal is to try and make them panic and run for the exits. Wish me luck, I am pulling the trigger today on two of these hucksters. Succeed or fail, I will post my attempt. PLEASE help me riff on this attempt when I post it in the next day or two and let's do better for round two.

The key is counter-intuitive, you must "Buy Into Their Scam!"

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it any more!" (news anchor in some movie I watched once upon a time.)

P.S. I told huckster #2 I was going to do this on CoinTalk today! Part of the "messing with his head" thing. Now to go post this on CCF as well.l

I conducted my own "bait and switch" campaign about 15 years ago when eBay all but ignored complaints about sellers and let them get away with murder, and I didn't even need help from eBay to win my case.

It happened when I won an auction for a raw 1892-CC Morgan with a snipe bid of $950. The photos were of a coin that appeared to be about MS64, but the coin I received was XF at best. I contacted the seller immediately and insisted a refund, but he refused claiming that he did not switch coins. We went back and forth until he made the mistake of informing me that he knew the law because he was a magistrate in Tennessee. I said "great"! Then I will file a complaint with the Tennessee States Attorney's office, and we'll see how long you keep that job. I got my refund immediately, and then I posted negative feedback. Win! Win! ~ Chris

Reid , if you decide to do this, I will give my advice and as always since you haven't violated anything with this current post, it can be taken or ignored. It sounds as if you are planning on purchasing varieties that are not genuine and then return it and report , etc. They likely won't run as you hope, most will reply that they disagree and return your money and you then have no eBay right to pursue it. A waste of your time and efforts. They are like indigenous weeds and pests, they can outnumber you. Don't waste the time. Use it to learn more about the varieties you like and look for those on ebay who show the PUPs and enjoy your pursuits and collections, It will bring you more enjoyment. IMO, Jim

Thanks, Jim for your advice. I am trying something totally different and am very willing to fail publicly; I will share this attempt on this forum. All I ask is my now un-surprising refrain that please give me credit for at least trying something new.

I like to think I am a Boy Scout, and in my past career as a retired MD of a major Wall Street investment bank, I was forced to learn memo and logic politics with some of the sharpest Wall Street stereotypes out there. I came away with a good batting average and my morals intact.

What is an eBay "bait and switch" die variety artiste compared to the very-high-six-figure Wall Street calibre artistes I have come up against during my Wall Street sojourn?

I tried and was successful with having some sellers removed and went as far as sending a few counterfeits to the US Secret Service. It's like pulling weeds, pull one and two more grow back. It takes several people to report items to get sellers removed and they come back using a different name. There are to many people using deceptive tactics on eBay, I quit buying there because of it. I know there are plenty of good sellers on eBay but I feel that my time and money is better spent at major auction houses. Good luck

I'm rather new at hunting. I've always collected coins simply because I liked how they looked. Not until this year did I really start to educate myself on verieties etc. I'm going to take some photos of the 82 that I found and get some opinions. Thanks for the reply.

I really do hope you nail at least one of those bottom feeders. Its People like and crazy and the crazy buy it now extremely low bargain price are what makes it hard for coin hunters to get a sale price for what we do. It's not easy. Good luck with the head hunting.
