So I know I am a noob in these parts, so forgive me is one exists... but I cant find a thread for GSA Morgans. Let’s see some! Here is my one and only: 1884 CC Stunning reverse with an awesome clash. VAM3a if you are into that.
Here is nice 3a close up copied from the VAM website. Looks identical to mine, but I cant take as good a pic. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1884-CC_VAM-3A
now compare the mint mark (cc) on your coin in the original post to the coin in your second post on the vam site. You will see a wide spread on (cc) in the original post as compared the the almost closed mint mark(cc) on the picture from the vam site. I am by no means an expert , but i would not by that coin raw based on that mint mark. I will defer to the more experienced & educated. If you can get a closeup of the mint mark on your coin and a full shot of the slab obverse and reverse it could help determine for others to follow.
You are looking at an image taken with a single light source at a (somewhat) low angle. The result is a shadow on the left side of the mint mark against an under-lit area of the field. The coin is legit and in fact a VAM-3A as posted by the OP.
Whew, you guys scared me for a second lol. I love the conversation. I’ll definitely take a better pic of my MM tonight.
Nice coins guys. These have always interested me, but the only one I ever owned I bought at a small show and then traded it before the day was over.
One of my first purchases was a set of "CC" Morgans.. It was labeled "The Wild West Collection" with a 1882 CC, 1883 CC, and 1884 CC. All three coins were graded MS 65 by NGC. For an untrained eye as well as a Newby, I thought they were beautiful, so I locked them up in my Credit Unions "security bank box" along with a 1880 S NGC graded MS64 and my 1881 S, graded MS 63. In my infancy of buying Morgan Silver dollars, I bought 10 raw Uncirculated 1921 and 1 1921D and 1 1921S. I have several raw Morgans that I got from my father's will. Coins I get, either inherited or purchased by me go into a long dark black hole, either in my safe or my credit union's "Safety Deposit Box". I wonder if my coins are so important that I put them away and don't see them.
