Not Genuine

Well, "I searched the world over" on PCGS' website and found no additional detail on the exact clarification of "not genuine".

Have you considered contacting them directly ? I've received good customer support from all three top TPGs.

I looked too and found nothing. I did however find this excellent article which may have an impact on any morgan collectors here.

To get a close up of the MM try putting a magnifying glass up against the lense of your camera , read this in another thread today . Sorry for your loss .

Good catch on the altered mint mark. That would also be another reason for the "Not Genuine" call from PCGS and doesn't mean it has to be a counterfeit/fake for it to be Not Genuine.

While on the subject of altered coins.. I think I may have a coin with something applied to the surface. It is a 1911-s Barber half in an MS63 PCGS slab. The obverse has rather dull luster compared to the reverse, under 10x mag there are several very tiny spheres on the surface next to some of the letters. they are gray and have a sort of foliated look, like micro-brussels sprouts.I lack the photo skills to image things that small. Could this be a wax job? Do I have any financial recourse with pcgs if they did slab an altered coin? thanks in advance, I will be gone until Sunday pm.

 

It may have been some kind of treatment they did to the coin before slabbing it and it didn't work? I'd contact them and tell them what you told us and see what they say? I've heard that TPG's will remove growths on coins that are in their slabs and I think it only costs shipping but I'm not for sure on either.

That is just semantics. Rust is just another word for corrosion of ferrous metals (iron & steel).

 

thanks for the info, folks. will contact pcgs. I'm familiar with the look of coins struck from rustED dies, this looks more like tiny 'growths.' Moldy coin?LOL
