I found this guy Yesterday I was wondering if you guys could help me out on if this is real or not. I did the magnet test and it is indeed steel, but I question the second 4. It’s an even with the rest of the date. There’s also some sort of doubling or strike though. Here are some pictures. I could really use some help. Thank you.
Plated. the plating is ferromagnetic. it will stick to a magnet. Altered 1944 Cent. Not the real deal.
I agree with Fred. There is finning on the reverse top edge, but Abe's cheek and jaw look flat with wear. That just don't add up...
There are 39 known. Could there be another one? Maybe. There are a million fakes for every real one. Do you think you have found a 1 in a billion coin, or a fake? You've already been told by experts it doesn't appear genuine. Are you waiting to get the answer you want to hear? Yes it's real, find of a lifetime.
When the "attracted to a magnet " started decades ago magnets were mainly the old horseshoe or bar magnets ( Alnico Ferrite) and were relatively weak compared to todays rare earth magnets NIB magnets which are generally way more than 10X stronger and are way more common now than the oldies. Plating can be much thinner now and still be attracted. I used to have a old time horseshoe , but Neodymium based ones now. IMO, Jim
