Very excited about this one. A while back I picked up a Titus denarius with the trophy and bound captive on the reverse. I really liked this design for Titus so I started looking for the left facing version. It turns out, the left facing version is rare. There are only 2 types of denarii with this reverse and a left facing portrait. They are RIC 31 and RIC 50. The one below is RIC 50. Both RIC 31 and RIC 50 are R2 (very few examples known). For RIC 31 I see 4 examples on Acsearch and for RIC 50 I see 3 (mine is one of the 3). I won this coin today from an Artemide Aste auction. Though I have been looking for more Domitian rarities, lately I been finding Titus rarities. It seems a bunch of rare ones have appeared in the last few months. Please post your coins of Titus. Beautiful coin! This is my right facing coin. I always thought that this was a Judaea Capta coin but read in Sears that the reverse also may be associated with the activities in northern Britain of Gnaeus Julius Agricola. He was a celebrated governor responsible for much of the Roman conquest of Britain. Titus, denarius. RIC 1, RSC 334a. 20 mm 3,31 g. Rome mint, June - July 79 AD. Obv. A common one of Titus as Caesar: Titus as Caesar, AD 69-79. Roman AR Denarius, 3.27 g, 18.5 mm, 6 h. Rome, AD 76. Obv: T CAESAR IMP VESPASIAN, laureate head right. A very nice addition Andrew! I like the portrait and toning. It's nice to see how much he looks like his father. I already showed my only Titus earlier this week. But I think it is not the last I have purchased.

Actually David, I did not see yours on Acsearch. Yours is also very nice. I noticed that you were the only one on Forum ancient Coins who has a RIC 50 for Titus.
Trajan had a variation on the type but with captive seated rather than kneeling and not unlike the Judaean type of Vespasian.
The coin arrived today.It is much better in hand than in the seller's photo. IMHO the portrait is amazing.
