A couple 67 TrueViews to compare with. The OP coin looks nicer than the first one. The second has significantly better eye appeal.
Could you tell me why the apparent flat portion on the right side of the "S" in CENTS and the ding to the berry to the right of CENTS don't detract from the grade?
I went AU58 based on the cheek and hair alone. Yeah, roll your eyes. But I don't see this being in TPG plastic past 65. I dont think even by PCGS own standards this possibly could stretch to 66. Yeah, it's mostly mark free, but the normal 66 I see in this series have much nicer cheeks and hair. So I think Max 65, but man a lot of you are thinking 66 on this one. Curious.
Obviously I was late to party on this one. This is the reason I specifically don't read past the first few posts before I vote. I look at the results, and post my reply on the first page. That way I wont be influenced by others. Now I see this PCGS 66 and I am fairly shocked. Love your polls, keep up the good work on selecting candidate coins.
As is frequently the case, I too am late the the party. My opinion was MS 66, based upon only a couple very minor nicks. What one might see as wear in some areas such as the hair and star 7 is apparently mushiness resulting from a weak strike or a worn die. Also, the busy ‘pimple-like’ area on the high cheek near the ear appears to be a result of die imperfections. IMO, this would be a MS 67, if not for the weak strike and/or worn die limitations. Thanks physics-fan for all the time spent putting this coin grading experience together. It’s been really educational, at least for me.
I think the right side of the S is due to the lighting. It doesn't look like damage to me. I see a very, very small mark on the dot to the right of cents. That will detract from the grade, of course. However, it is an extremely small mark on a portion of the coin well outside of the prime focal areas. It's impact to the grade will be minimal. On a 66, several small marks are allowed, even in focal areas.
