Here is my type set that I have been working on and off for long time. Not the greatest pictures but here are some of them coons.
Wish I had the funds to purchase coins of that quality! My Dansco 7070 is full of pieces that are, umm, problematic, to say the least.
We all have coins like that. I'm getting better at saving up for one coin that's really nice instead of a few that are not so good. The 7070 is a lot of fun.
Very nice @redcent230! Can we see pics of each page? Don't be disappointed or discouraged @QuintupleSovereign. A low grade (worn coins) hopefully not totally damaged Dansco set can be very appealing. When I first started my set, I was really surprised of the number of coins I already had in my collection. I started pulling coins from other albums and random tubes, to fill the 7070. However; whichever way you look at it, it's nice to have a consistent looking set of similar condition coins. with @ldhair. It was fun putting together.
In many cases, I actually prefer the worn coins. I like the look some of them have, and the history. Sounds crazy, right? I'm still choosy when it comes to the coins, even worn cheaper coins, and while some people would say a single $500 coin is better than 5 x $100 coins, I actually practice the opposite. I do totally agree that its a smart method, and you will get some very special coins using that method (instead of a bunch of coins you feel so-so about). However, in a lot of coin series, the next grade might cost 2 or 3 times a much. I think a great coin in grade or two before the prices start getting nutty is better for me to maximize the value. For instance, for a type set, MS66 Buffalo nickels are gorgeous and affordable for many dates, whereas the MS67 prices jump through the roof. Well, for my type set I sold a MS67 I cherry picked to a dealer that used to be on this site a lot. I used the money from that coin to roll into several nice $250 coins for my Type set. yeah, the MS67 had amazing booming luster, but it didnt make sense to me to put a $1,000 coin next to great $50, $100, $200 coins. I was happy to have a MS66 Buffalo and like 4 more Types. I guess my point is, no matter what your budget, try to be choosy and know that there are several valid methods to pursuing your goal. on the set beside them gold coins that I don't have is expensive are the Trade and Seated dollars which I don't have either.
I have assembled a typeset of holed coins. It is a set that if the coins didn't have holes in them. Would have cost me five times what I've paid.. Many consider them problem coins, but I don't care. I enjoy them a lot..
The images make it tough to really grade the coins. They look AU or MS something but that's just a guess. They look nice from what little I can see.
