Ancient Roman coins style writing.

Ok...so you know how if you read an ancient coin obverse and the coin is Aurelian, it will say:

AVRELIANVS AVG

Well, I plan to get a tatoo with this style of writing, so how would you do:

Anthony?

Also, what exactly does the AVG part mean?

so mine would read either:

ANTHONIVS P.F. PRINC. IVVENT

or

ANTHONYVS P.F. PRINC. IVVENT (not sure if you can use Y or not)

A tattoo is permanent. Before you get one make sure you want that in your skin for the rest of your life. Have you changed your mind lately?

 

I thought about somwthing like that myself, not sue exactly what, maybe the chi-rho. You could always get the ink that fades away or the ink you can only see in a black light if your not sure ^_^

 

Whichever titles you assume, ANTONINVS or ANTONIVS would be a much more appropriate form of your name. VILEMVS isn't a particularly inspiring Latin name, so I doubt I'll ever get a tatoo like this.

 

I'd recommend using this style, too. From one of my favorite coins:

I wold prolly use the ANTONINVS one...along with PRINC. IVVENT.

lol...I do change my mind alot don't I....I have been actually been wanting this one, along with 3 others for a while...will prolly get this one first since it is the easiest.

How about you just do your name and give yourself some time to earn the AVG or P.F.. you wouldn't want a lictor seeing your tattoo and giving you the old fasces for being so brazen.

 

he might be like me though, N. C., NOB. C., NOB. CAES. or NOBIL C.Nobilitas Caesar ("Royal Heir").

 

I would perhaps go for S C - issued by decree of the senate......

 

Stainless , I've got five tattoos my first when I was in H.S. the others in my late teens and early twenties , I regret most of them , think twice and then again .

Stainless, consider this, unless you have a family business that you plan to go into and eventually take over, visible tatoos are a big turn off for most potential employers and customers. Unless you plan to go into one of the manual labor trades.

 

Conder makes a good point , lucky I was a toolmaker and machinist where tatoos are a dime a dozen , if you plan on a white colar job , and you must have one , put it where it is easily covered up .
