    Hey guys,

I am not as familiar with the grading services as I probably should be, and I wanted to know what people thought of the company ANACS? I know that PCGS and NGC are normally the two best companies from what I've seen, but I have not really heard much about others, which may be a sign in itself but I still want to ask. I read that ANACS is best for error grading, but I am not as familiar with their accuracy and/or reliability for grading.

Please let me know what you guys think!

I used to use ANACS exclusively. In my view, their standards are exemplary and they have slabbed my 16-D Merc, 09,S-VDB Lincoln among others. That was twenty years ago. As my collection grew, more of my finer coins were purchased in slabs from PCGS and NCG. So I now have a storage problem. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about their grades. I just have a problem with their slab size which is really just a minor aggravation really.

ANACS has had periods in their history when their grading was loose. Right now I think their grading is decent, but the market will still discount the value of coins in their modern holders. IMO they are a viable option for lower value coins.

I started with ANACS and have stuck with them. I like their customer service, always receive prompt and timely feedback and delivery. Easy website to track my submissions. I like their specials. I'm not a high end dealer of collector, so then prices and quality are fine by me.

ANACS has served me well for many years but most of my submissions have been errors and varieties. Their economy tier for specials can be very slow but as long as you are patient their prices are fine. They grade as well as the others but resale will always be higher for NGC & PCGS.

I think their grading is less consistent than NGC and PCGS and their slabs are ugly as sin. They are, however, really good at including a high level of detail on their slab labels, including the identification of obscure types, varieties, and errors that the big two do not identify.

If you're into VAMs, DDO/DDRs varieties on moderns, and other similar minutiae, ANACS is your best option. For those types of coins, the ANACS slab is valued well. For most other types, they would do better in an NGC or PCGS slab, depending on the piece.

Quite correct, but I've never really sent a lot of coins other than varieties. I can't attest to much of the regular coins they grade.

I've had a few issues where coins were rotated in their slabs; other than that, I have no complaints about their grading.

Isn't Randy Campbell from FUN a grader for ANACS ?

He is a finalizer for ICG, unless something changed recently.

Could be your pics, but image 2 on my end, obverse near the top looks like scratches, one extending into GW's head.

I think he is referring to your quarter post, but that's my guess.

Ya sorry, had problems with my phone and posted to the wrong thread. But yes, that's the area I was referencing. I also see marks at the back of GW's head, 3 or 4 vertical in the field.
