Checking lots and lots of change for a friend, ran into this and not sure what I am looking at. Did this Presidential Dollar get struck on a SBA blank???

Plated junk. Just like the state and national parks quarters from HSN.

I wonder if it was a microscopically coated piece, with silver or PT, like a lot of the "cladless" state quarters.

Some people think those are actually made out of gold. Deep inside I burst in laughter, but I don't want to be rude to anyone. FYI an ounce of gold is most likely more than your house payment. :D

I'm not seeing a date on that so I have to say it's from a private Mint.

The presidential Dollars were minted with incuse edge lettering that included the date, mint mark, and motto. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was moved to the obverse in 2009 as people were referring to the coins as "Godless Dollars". Some of the earlier year coins have the edge lettering missing and carry a premium.

One last thought, weight can be thrown out as they both should weigh 8.1g.
Is there evidence of the cladding on the third side?

Now that I look at it closer, it does look plated... :(

Look at the edge. If it was struck on a SBA planchet you will see the same "sandwich" appearance that we see on clad dimes, quarters, halves, Ikes, and SBA's. If the edge is a solid color it's plated.
