    Hey guys,
what grading do you expect for this Philadelphia mint coin? I think the ''dammage'' on the reverse side is probably the result of a bad coin blank.

I mean this area. The question is whether this is a material error or caused by another coin post minting.

Those are just spots, probably dirt. Not damage.

the scratches on the obverse are far more concerning

I like the coin and the color. The die cracks on the obverse are nice too. I’d grade it 64.

    Are you sure ?

It almost looks like an upward "ridge" but I can't tell as the close-up isn't high enough.

Do you have a return option ? If so, you should be OK.

Maybes, but they look like gaps in the luster. Plus they go over the devices (look at 3:00-4:00).

Great looking gold piece but the coloring makes me wonder if it's natural or not! As far as the reverse goes, idk. Looks like a smudge type of scratch, that's just a guess tho'! Please post more pics when you get it in hand!

Thats what My eye jumped to right away. I was going to circle it and post it, but you beat me to it. Good job.

This looks like more to me than just dirt, but I dont know what. Looks like a earth quake happened and opens a crevice. A fissure if you will. At the very least, its an area of concern you should maybe ask the dealer for additional photos, or inspect in person? Planchet flaw? Is it bent there? Scratched? We need a diagnosis. :nurse:

It it was just a straight line of dirt that would be one thing, but I am seeing more of a broken fault line. ----///\/\/\/\/\\\\----- Maybe its an optical illusion, but I feel like there is some depth there.

If it had blood on it, I would swear that it had been through saw briers

My gues is that this is caused by an imperfect slug. I don't know the right term for this . Here are pictures of this phenomenon on german coinage.
I will post pictures after receiving the coin. The price was very reasonable. Keeping in mind the different weight its just 2% more expansive than a Krugerand:)

Thank you very much so the tipp :)

Here are better pictures of the coin. It was quiet dirty and so I had to clean it in an ultra sonic bath filled with hot soap water. The ''probelm'' on the reverse was a very supericial scratch filled with dirt. The coin looks quiet fresh and there are not too many scratches on it. The sunbeams are very clean as well. The only little issue is the left field overse with some very superficial ''rubbing'' as you can see on the first image. But this has no effect on the mint luster. I would consider the coin as MS63 or MS64. But I am not so experieced in grading american coins and so there are probably more solid opinions out there :) IMG_4967.JPG IMG_4971.JPG IMG_4977.JPG IMG_4979.JPG IMG_4981.JPG

I cleaned several gold coins in my ultrasonic bath and there was no (visible) damage on them. This is a good way to remove dirt from them. By the way: Removing mineral residues is very easy by adding some vinegar to the water. Please keep in mind that I only talk of cleaning chemical inert gold coins!
