this is a provincial Macedonia AE27 of Antoninus Pius.....that is all I know right now... So, what is the most I should pay for it? and also, the guy said he was Suttonizing" it. Sutton's formula is a sulfur paste that will turn it a more even brown and retone the brighter exposed areas.....will that hurt the coin? Here it is, a potential addition to my collection (based on what your guys advice is)
Well, first off, its a lovely portrait of my one of my favorite Emperors. But the reverse isn't ideal. Now, are you really interested in provincial coins or coins fo Antoninus in particular? If not, are you sure you don't want an Imperial coin? I would normally pay $10 max for it, but I could be convinced to go up to $20-25. (or I wouldn't buy it at all, if I couldn't get a price I was happy with)
I really just buy anything I like for ancients...I don't have an area yet...but he said $16.50 or a trade... thanks for the help stainless
Hello, If you're not bothered with the condition of the coin : it's rather a big bronze (size of an as or dupondius), the portrait is decent, there"s a thunderbolt on reverse (the kind of symbol that is thought after for imperials). Ten go for it. 16,5 USD is just what it is and the coin is nearly 2000 years old. And when you get bored with it you can give it as a present to a kid or a school. If the condition of the coin is important for you, then save money and buy a tenth of what you would normally buy, but on the high end. Personnally I wouldn't buy it, being in the second case Cucumbor
