For all you guys that have a coin in you avatar, what is the story and why did you decide to put it there? Mine is a 1990-P Lincoln cent, for my small cent type set, and is the only coin in my collection that would grade MS-67 or better IMHO. stainless
I have always loved Morgan Dollar's, since I began collection they have been my favorite of all coins. A while back, someone posted a link to a website loaded with coin images that were designed to be used as avatar type images. They were free to be used by anyone (as long as not to make a profit). I found a Morgan Dollar just like my ideal Morgan (proof like with strong cameo) and have used it ever since.
Well, first off, I just figured out how to get an avatar. I'm a newbie I know. And, I've been really into early commemoratives lately. I find the Spanish Trail to be one of the best looking coins I've seen (it's simple, but nice). This and the Texas commemorative. It's also a coin that's way up there on my want list, but it doesn't seem like I'll be acquiring it anytime soon. Atleast the Texas comm. is within reach.
Mine was the most expensive Lincoln ever sold - the single 1926-S MS65 red by PCGS. However, since the 1944-S, it is now the 2nd most expensive.
3c silver was the first coin that ever caught my attention. It's my favorite. The pic is of the smallest 3cS ever. It's dia is a little smaller than the back end cap of a bic pen. I thought that it had not been sent until I looked inside envelope and it was taped to the side with a piece of paper acting as a guard. It is a better pic than I have been able to take so far.
My current avatar coin is a modern Hobo nickel I recently bought. It was carved by Joe Paonessa who bills himself as "The world's greatest left-handed Hobo nickel carver".
Mine was purchased raw off of Ebay , it now resides in a NGC MS-65 RB slab. I seem to attract nice 1922-D Lincolns, always have and absolutly love that date. I wish I could attract a 1924-D and 1926-S this nice, lol.
My collection of rainbow toned coins started with Morgan Dollars. Although not the highest graded of my over 75 Morgans, it is by far the most interesting rainbow toned coin in the collection. The color scheme is fantastic and lady liberty has a bright pink eye which led me to name the coin the pink eye dollar. It is also a pedigreed coin from the Battle Creek collection. Great thread by the way.
Aren't the two (the avatar coin, and the Morgan in the sig) the same? Anyway, this topic is about the avatar pieces - and mine is the Italian €1 featuring Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man". I find the drawing about human proportions interesting, and I like the coin very much. In my opinion it is, along with the Greek one, the best €1 design. Christian
Mine is a gold half lion from Queen Mary of Scotland, dated 1553, my oldest dated British coin, and only Scottish gold coin.
You can read about mine here! http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=28724&highlight=1982+ddr Richard
I had been wanting the coin in my avatar for over a year. This one finally called my name & I HAD to have it. The reverse is in my sig.
There is an old saying that anyone who can remember the 60s wasn't really there. Mine is more of the attitude that I bring to the hobby.
