Morgan Dollar at 140X bid!

I have expressed my willingness to purchase coins at multiples of bid price over that last few weeks. I strongly believe that there are coins out there that deserve 20X-30X and in some extraordinary instances maybe 50X bid price, but this coin is just ridiculous @ 140X bid price. http://www.coinace.com/detail.aspx?ID=2625

Now I love the Battle Creek coins as much as anyone, but they have 3 different MS64 & MS65 BC Morgans with the lowest price being $7,000. I didn't spend that much on my entire Battle Creek collection.



I really don't understand how they expect to sell those coins at those prices with those terrible scans/photos. Anyone else have an opinion?

Grey Sheet says $58 for that coin. It is pretty with the toning and I might go as high as $70 or $75. $7,000 is completely, utterly ridiculous.

Now watch someone buy it for $7,000.

You wont get even close to a coin like that for $75, It's a ( edit, I should shut up on price )coin

 

I know. But I would not pay anywhere close to that just for some "pretty" toning.

 

There are folks that pay the silly money, but 7k is overdose territory, beyond all logic, especially for a Battle Creek 64*, they are ALMOST as common as primo early S mint DMPL's

 

whats wrong with my toned lincolns are there poeple who will buy those for lets say 100 bucks. if the answer is yes then thats crazy

 

Not for any you posted Spock, they are nice, but they to be pretty special like the beautiful look of these Battle Creeks. Toning in itself does not cost extra, it has to have eye appeal, and " pop ", you'll know it when you see it. Like I said in another thread, you'll walk by a dealers table and it will yell at you. You'll hear it first, lol. Great coins do that.

 

Believe it or not, I am not a dealer and don't have a website. In fact, over the years I have only sold 25 coins on E-Bay, but have purchased over 300. I just love toned coins, that is all I own. I like to show my collection to others who appreciate nicely toned coins and if I can educate novice collectors who usually think toning is bad, that is a good thing also.

I can probably post some brilliant album Mercury Dimes or something, but I don't think anyone would want to look at them.

BTW, what you have seen is just the tip of the iceberg.

AJ is right, $75 might get the dealer to let you hold it for 5 mintues, but then he is going to take the coin back and keep your $75 as rent paid.

AJ, I disagree with that coin being $400-$500. The scan/photo is terrible and does not do that coin justice at all. If Brandon Kelley or someone with some skill photographed that coin, it's real value would show. I would guess that the coin is an absolute monster and could see it selling for $2,000+ easily. Having said that, no way any 1887 Morgan Dollar MS64* should be valued at $7,000. I think that is insane, and most collectors think that I am insane for the prices I pay for these coins.

Yes, poker, I noticed that.

Untill poker got crazy from televised games, I played about 8 hours a day in the AZ Indian casinos, usually 6-12 holdem, and have played many a tournament. I USED to eat sleep and breath poker.

Nowadays, everybody wants to be Phil Helmuth or Johnny Chan, they have wrecked live poker.

 

Did you say poker? Who is the second player? Does he want to play heads up? Where are we going to play, I don't have any money in my Pokerstars account. I am in complete poker withdrawal. The only thing I am addicted to more than coins is poker, poker, poker. Shuffle up and deal.

These are my trophies, I use poker to support my coin addiction.



However, if you used to play $6-$12 holdem and tournaments, I would have a very difficult time beating you. Tournaments and that limit cash game requires a patience level that I simply can't attain. I usually play $20-$40 & $40-$80 holdem and have put myself in detention for losing $3,500 on Friday night. No new coins this month I guess.
