This is on the reverse of a 2015 P Blue Ridge Quarter. Thoughts?

Looks like a die chip. Don't know if I'd call it "substantial".

Nice chip. I have found this to be more common on this coin than without. I ordered two bags of 100 of these from the Mint and ended up with over 50 of them.

Wow. Must have been a bit of a complex design.

Actually it was just Philly over using their dies to the bitter end.

Ah I see. Doesn't help that die quality has gone down.

You have to understand, the US MINT is producing coins for commerce; to be used as money. The one major qualifying factor is that it has to be visually identifiable as US money. Die chips, etc etc does not really matter. They use the dies in minting coins as fast as possible to produce as many as possible, until they die lol

Now, the US MINT also produces Mint and Proof sets where they do care about the quality up and above the coins used in circulation. They do not over use the dies and have higher inspection rates and quality control.

It would help if you would post FULL IMAGE photos, full obverse and reverse, along with a close up.
