Ok, I know its holed. I don't care, I was at my local shop today, and the girl put this up on the counter and asked if I was interested. Since I never see bust halves, and the price was right, $19. I snapped that puppy up, I didn't even second guess it. After getting home and taking some pictures and getting a closer look, I saw what appears to be a 3 under the 4. Here are some close-up pics, it looks just like what is in the redbook to me. Feel free to give me your opinions on the 4/3, and your grade, I called it a VG-8, without the hole that is.

I like it, she has a story to tell, possibly a 1814 over 3 -- O-101A - R-2. Remember this little song??? (No offense intended to my British Brethren...)
    ////////////////////////////////////////
In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We looked down the river and we seed the British come
And there must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood behind our cotton bales and didn't say a thing

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets till we looked 'em in the eyes
We held our fire till we seed their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and gave 'em..
    Well... we...

Fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannonballs 'n' powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

    Hut, hut, three, four
    Sound off, three, four
    Hut, hut, three, four
    Sound off, three, four
    Hut, hut, three, four

Nice coin BQ. Too bad about the hole but like Bone says..she has a story to tell. And, speak of telling, if you remember that one Bone.....well I won't go there.

    Hey Bones,
If they think to remember that song makes you old, then what will they think when they hear I own the original Johnny Horton vinyl record with that song. My hubby has one also.

    BQ,
Holed or not it is a fine coin!... and special one at that.
One of my junk bin world coins has a hole and it is a favored coin in my meager world coin collection.

I''m 47, but grew up in the Deep South (Centerville, Tx) and songs like this were the ones I remember being played by small three piece bands when my folks used to take us to the local dance halls on Saturday nights in the late 1960s. All the grown-ups would dance and eat while us kids would play/cut-up outside.

Great fun when your best friends lived many rural miles away and your only playmate for many a day was just your brother...

    :)
