I am just starting to search rolls of Kennedy Halfs, and I have done maybe less than $2,000 worth, but I do not understand some things, such as why are there almost no coins after 2004? Why is the 1979-D so hard to find? Curious.....
Starting in 2002 the mint produced halves in lower amounts and were not released for circulation. These are called NFIC, not issued for circulation. There were over 15 million 1979 D halves produced, they shouldn’t be all that hard to find.
Where do you get your rolls of Halves from? Any silver? If not then that would be a good indication that they were already searched.
BofA mostly. No silver. Some machine rolled, some hand rolled. Usually 1-2 hundred at a time, almost all go back to the bank.
You have just started out. I predict you will eventually find silver if you keep searching. I'm surprised the bank takes them back. Are you hand rolling them or is there a coin counting machine there? If you have the money, try ordering a box.
I keep all that I find but you can buy nice uncirculated examples for most dates and mint marks for $5 or less.
You don't want to return the coins to the same place you got them. This is considered poor CRH etiquette.
Went to a bank in a struggling neighborhood and asked for 50 cent rolls, and they had 16 hand rolled tubes. Amazed when I pulled 12 silver including 5 90% coins and even one Franklyn coin in very good condition. I wish they could tell me who brought them in to the bank, because I feel like I owe them something.
