Never thought Godwin's Law would apply to a discussion about coins lol...

Anywho similarities between those two seems a bit superficial. There's only so many ways you can pose eagles and a globe is not the same as a swastika.

Perhaps my examples should have been different but as a numimatist the reverse of the coin and the reverse of the 1939 coin just popped into my head as being similar. As for Godwins Law, You're right on with LOL. John

Not that I think the "amero" is ging to become a real thing any time soon ;) but are there also Canadian or Mexican pieces? Not in terms of metallic issues (would probably be too expensive) but in terms of designs maybe ...

I bought the 2007 and the 2008 bronze 20 Ameros pieces from Daniel. One in proof and one in satin proof. I just happen to like his designs and thought they were cool to add to our collection. I'll probably buy a 2009 and so on if he keeps designing them. :D

I think of them as being in the same category as the Comitia Americana & Tivio Johnson medals. We have a full set of the CA medals and to round that set off, I'd love to acquire a Libertas Americana medal. We also own 4 of the 6 T. Johnson medals, trying for a complete set of 6. I doubt if that will be IT for collecting medals, there are so many great ones to choose from.

Let's not forget D. Carr is also the designer for the NY State and Rhode Island State quarters so he does have merit as an engraver/designer. :)

With the dollar tanking, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Ameros in my lifetime.

Check out www.spp.gov They say they aren't doing this secretly because, "There's a website" (that nobody knows about) and apparently Bush has been doing a lot behind the scenes without any voting or congressional approval. Just secret meetings.

First steps to the Amero IMO.

It's called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, which is more palatable since the term North American Union has been demonized.

Heck after incorporating mexico and canada into an american union, the amero would still be weaker than the dollar.

You knew about it. Unless you're a mole in the Bush Administration, that already proves it's not secret. (Even if it was, it's not now!) Maybe they're not taking great efforts to make it well known, but that's not the same as secrecy.

Again, they're not secret, if you know about it, others can too. And it's just proposals, Bush has done nothing binding (that would require Congressional approval). It's more of considering a "what if" scenario, that the president (whoever he happens to be at the time; don't mean just Bush specifically) does all the time; they don't bother bringing to anyone's attention unless it's really necessary. Sorry, no black helicopters involved here. Even if Bush were so inclined, which I doubt, he'd need COngressional approval to do anything binding, which he's sure to not get with the Congress cxontrolled by the opposing party in an election year, in the last 6 months of a lame duck's term. Chances of that actually happening are pretty close to zero I'd say.

I'm in a very small minority that knows about it or even cares. That's all I was saying. Seriously, look on youtube for Lou Dobbs talking about it and see how much of a proposal or "what if" scenarios there are.

What's been done is done. We just don't have the Amero yet. This stuffs getting rammed through behind the scenes with plenty more to come. McCain or Obama will pick up right where Bush leaves off.

Congress isn't allowed to talk about it. Except for that "crazy old guy" Ron Paul.
It would seem you're falling in line with what they want and expect you to believe. "Oh, just a bunch of crazy people with another conspiracy theory."

None of the major news networks will cover it. Either they're not allowed to or the anchors don't have the guts to bring it up or their bosses won't let them. Lou Dobbs is the only one willing to discuss it if you'll notice.
Doesn't seem strange at all to anyone?

You can have the last word. I'm not going to say anymore on this subject. I don't want the thread to get locked and it's just going to make me angrier.

The Euros have a common obverse and a unique reverse for each individual country, yes?

That would be fine for the US coins, but Canada would surely demand something cooler... like a giant beaver with a beer in one hand and a hockey stick in the other. Yeah, much cooler...

    Or believes it...

Lou Dobbs is hardly considered a relieable source by many people. At best it's only his opinion that there's anything to this. If he had any facts... well if he had any facts to back any of this up, it would be major news, and not something that only a small minority knows or cares about.

Not seen or heard anything from the two potential next presidents that suggests either of them favor this, or even know or care about it. Seen or heard nothing from any other American politicians, or for that matter prominent Canadian or Mexican politicians either. If any of them favored this, they'd be shouting from the rooftops if they wanted it and think the people of North America would accept it. Clearly their silence is proof that few or none favor it and/or believe any of their constituents would accept it.

Yeah, members of Congress have always been known not to speak out about things they believe their political opponents are doing wrong. Wouldn't want to hurt the opposing party's chances for getting re-elected and/or controlling Congress, so best not to embarass them right?

Yep, people who are already marginalized have little to lose by making themselves look crazy or stupid I guess.
The reason why this, and most other, conspiracy theories are downright ludicrous is the vast number of people that would have to keep it secret in order to pull it off. Clinton couldn't even have oral sex in the White House without it being front page news within the month... do you really think something this big could be kept under wraps for any length of time? Might I point out that the fact that you supposedly know about it and are publicly discussing it, already disproves the existance of any secret conspiracy?!

Or they don't believe it either, and/or they don't consider it newsworthy.

Lack of better material, I suppose. Or like Ron Paul, being marginalized, he has little to lose by making himself look foolish taking this seriously.

    Not the least bit. Sorry.

It was Lou Dobbs who wanted to impeach Bush for the Lettuce salmonella thingy. Google it. True story.

Obverse, shmobverse. :) Officially the country specific side of a euro coin is the obverse, but since hardly anybody outside the numismatic "community" cares about these terms, it is simply the common side and the national side ...

Right, these designs could be US versions of the hypothetical "North American" cash. Apart from the US specific design (which by itself I find appealing in many cases), they are English only. Would not work with a common currency.

Sorry, by the way - did not want my post about that storm Worm botnet to fuel a political discussion here again. I just found it amusing that the "amero" is now the background of a worm attack ...
