    I Need Some Info from a 2000 (+/- 1 yr) Red Book.

To do a value comparison, I need some info from a 1999, 2000 or 2001 Red Book.
Would someone please give me the values listed for an 1858 Large Letters Flying Eagle.

I need XF and better. Whatever's available (there may be only two grades.)

    1999 Red Book lists:
    VF20: $35.00
    EF40: $85.00
    MS60: $225.00

Nothing higher or in between listed except for a Proof-63 ($3200.00).

That info should be good enoough to do a rough estimate.

    D'oh!

    I'm 90% sure I've got a 1858/7 LL FE.
I was going to calculate a rough estimate of it's value.
Turns out it's a listed variety.
All I needed to do was look. :goof:

Thanks again for all the responses.

Oh, I have done similar things so many times.

I'd like to see a pic of the coin if you get a chance though.

Pictures you want, pictures you get.
    Two diagnostics for this coin.
The easy part is the doubling.
The hard part is the remnants of the "7" (right arrow) and a "dot" (left arrow).

I consider this darn near flyspeck numismatics.
But if the powers that be are going to list it and price it about 10x more than a normal 1858 LL, who am I to complain.

Is there doubling in the "United" as well? If so, I just can't quite see it. I see the doubling of the date and the dot though.

Look particularly at the tops of the "UN".
With more camera work I could probably do better.
The important point is that there's doubling AND it's where the book says it should be.

Oh, OK...I can see it. Right on the flat parts on the top of the U and the N.

    don't forget the easy diagnostic:
The missing segment on the top wing tip.

    Nice cherry pick.

It's not mentioned in Cherrypickers' so I didn't know to look for it.
    Nor what it looks like.

I didn't actually "cherry pick" this coin.
It's just the one MFD sold me for my type set.
Slabbed AU-58 by PCGS with no attribution.
If it gets authenticated, I'll ask $2000 for it.
That seems fair based upon CDN.
