Forgive me, I don't have a very good camera but I did the best I can. I found this earlier today and I've never seen a date (the number 6) so odd. I can't find any evidence it is post mint, there doesn't seem to be any gouges or scrapes near enough to have caused it, and it's very neat and clean. I'm OK if it's just a conversation piece, but I'm old and trying to learn new stuff. However, if it's Howard Hughes' long lost heir I'm also willing to share. BTW, I've spent at least 2, 3,or more hours every day over the last few months trying to understand my father in law's collection and I've waaaaaaay overdone it and am as confused as when I started. Is it appropriate to gather a bunch of coins I don't understand and someone be kind enough to tell me what I am and am not seeing? Otherwise, I'm afraid I will have to tell the family I need to start over or give up. Thanks for any input.
PMD, it took a hit there, or a particle of the die broke off. Oh,,, do not give up. If you have the time. Pick one type of coin, say - quarters, and focus upon them for a time. Then move to another. Break it down into sections or groups, like any other big job. Try to enjoy, keep posting and asking questions. I am 73, still fairly healthy. I enjoy new challenges, its also good for the brain. I have often suffered from depression and anxiety attacks, being involved with coins and the Bible are therapy (among other benefits). By the way how old are you?? Gary in Washington
Ha ha, that was funny, really. Hey get a better camera, get involved, Stick your neck out. Just on this site alone lies tons of information, just pick a topic and do a search at the tops of the pages. How old??? Gary in Washington
Welcome to Coin Talk. Go through one series at a time. Start with Cents, then nickels, etc..Ask questions. we're here to help.
You got the took a hit part correct. Then you added the particle of the die broke off.. That's incorrect.
That happens to be my birth year and I have one very similar to yours. I also inherited 2 collections that I've been going through the last few years. It takes time and research and there are very knowledgeable people here along with information you won't find anywhere else. Don't be discouraged and welcome to CT!
Thank you. I'm honestly exhausted researching because I pretty much overdo everything. In this case, it's only confused me because if I look at 10 sites, I get 20 different opinions on what I'm trying to find out. Thanks again for your time.
Thank you for the information. I will store it somewhere in my brane that will probably get lost, but I genuinely appreciate everyone's courtesy.
Thank you for the encouragement, and the part about faith is especially important. I hope it's appropriate to say this, but it's my firm belief that without God there's no way I'd still be standing. I'm 62 and arrogantly thought I was too old for depression, anxiety, or discouragement so our lives continue to get more complicated instead of better. My wife just found out she needs surgery and without discretionary income for several years I'm finally realizing I should shore up my faith so God can get through all the barriers I've put up. It took a long time to find a forum I felt comfortable I could trust, and the kindness I've already been given prove I at least got that part right. Let me wish you another even happier and healthier 73 more years!! Thanks again.
I've already found that this forum is full of people I can easily respect. Like yourself. Thank you for your time, and hopefully I won't run out of gas before I let it get me down. To everyone, I sincerely appreciate every moment you offer helping or just reading my pleas.
. . . For your wife .. Mother Mary said ANYTHING may be overcome with the Rosary... Please ck out https://archive.fatima.org/crusader/truestory/truestorytoc.asp...
I accidentally quoted the word wife. I can't express how incredible it is to have people like yourself show concern for my family. I am familiar with the event you referenced and have actually studied from a scientific POV when I was much, much younger. I must confess, however I have not been exposed to Catholicism, except tangentially. I'm not one to judge others, but when Faith is involved I like to believe the conversation is about the same God I know. It's possible to be a different one, and I won't judge. I will pray for that person and hopefully he/she will do the same and some day, some how we meet again in the same Heaven. Discussing coins (as well as my wife) it's looking like I'll never understand either one. If I had a choice, she's going to win but I hope it will be a win-win. Thank you again for reaching out. I will pass it on and look into it. You have my word.
