Check out what looks like to me is a V.E.D.S. DDO FS-101 doubled ear to the far south on this 1988-P L.M.C...... Obviously not mechanical doubling as the ear is certainly bigger than normal and not smaller or reduced in any way... Whatcha think?
I’m thinking PMD. Looks like it took a hit and displaced the metal. How about a full picture of the obverse and reverse just to make sure?
Displaced it that far and left a huge gap in between? Plus this coin is uncirculated/untouched and in high grade MSRD.....no PMD anywhere near this coin. But since I posted this thread, I have compared it to the known example and it's definitely the real deal in my opinion. It has an off center strike on both the obverse and reverse, all matching die scratches/chips/ & markers, the non-flared "G" reverse RDV-005, and all die imperfections like gauges and little circular raised die flaws match up..... Things are looking good.
This coin has a URS of 2, Variety Vista has the same two known examples. You are gonna have to show some better photos.
The characteristics look good, This is a coin I have wanted since I started collecting, I also wanted to know if the central designs are limited, or does this coin show extra thickness on the perimeter devises.
FS101 OP’s Y in liberty doesn’t match by the pics. JMHO. Plus it sure looks like PMD by the eye in the second photo he posted.... at least it does to me.
I meant to add in later die states, None of the provided photos show any depth, I am leaning away from a DDO, If better in depth, detailed photos can be provided then I could change my mind. Until then.....
Yeah, it's weird. Sometimes I think it is for sure, and other times not at all. It's like inception. Look at this pic. What could this be if not a DDO?
I don't see doubling. I see that is the way Lincoln's ear looked because of age and the fact that he was a championship wrestler in his youth. Wrestling causes the ear lobes to grow larger. That's why today high school and college wrestlers are required to wear head gear. BTW, in 300 matches Lincoln only lost once. He is in the "Wrestlers Hall of Fame". Look it up and look up an old picture of President Lincoln.
