What do you think of the Perth, Australian Mint issuing these Proof Orbital coins where the ship revolves around the Earth in the center of the coin. These coin are quite a gimmick but they're also very attractive. The proof coins are coated as to protect the finish instead of encapsulating them in a hard plastic holder like a kointain.
With only 50,000 coin to be struck, do you see any chance they'll go up in value? Have any modern Aussie coin increased in value more than it's bullion value? I don't know much about modern world coins even though I've bought some Silver Krugs, a Belgian 2 Euro coin, a Chinese Silver Panda and an Aussie Koala Silver coin just for their looks and interest value.

I have the first "Orbital Coin". Pretty interesting and a bit expensive. I am trying to decide if I will buy the next coin(s) in the series, I hope I could locate it for less than that $85 asking price.

Looks interesting, though I don't collect such gimmicks. ;) Cannot tell anything about the possible future value, but keep in mind that, while Perth Mint is in Australia, this coin was made for (well, in the name of) the Cook Islands ...

I was interested when i got the email about the coins from 'the perth mint'. But like Christian mentioned, they are legal tender in the Cook Islands, not Australia. the Cook islands issue EVERYTHING under the sun it seems. They have such a heavy product line, i cant believe anyone who might have the whole set lol

    so I thought

As much as like these moving orbital coins I'm beginning to realize that they are nothing more than the gimmick they they portray. However they do have an attractive look and I still may buy the one or ones I like.

But the $85 is a bit exorbitant.

Anyone buying these for investment purposes??
