Very cool- Here is the most recent interesting book I purchased- Contemporary Counterfiet Capped Bust Half Dollars Bone- you'd like this one.
Here is one I purchased a LONG time ago and basically have shelved since my interests turned towards Bust Half Dollars. It's chock full of great information; 480 pages in length with hundreds of illustrations... Take Care Ben
For Morgan & Peace dollars , "The Comprehensive Catalogue and Encyclopedia of U.S. Morgan and Peace Dollars" by Van Allen & Mallis is a great book on VAMS and other aspects of silver dollars . rzage:smile:hatch::hammer:
I own a copy of "Early Half Dollar Die Varieties" Revised Edition by Al C.Overton (1970 Colorado Springs) Let me regress. Back in 1970 I had bought a collection of about a dozen or so Bust Halves from a "Local Dealer" All were really, really nice coins VF-XF no problem coins, including an 1824 O-103 (over various dates). I look for this coin till this day. Anyway, The same week I bought this collection, I bought Al Overton`s book. One of these coins looked funny. Brassy looking, not quite right. It was a reeded edge type obverse (30 mm) struck on an 1830`s planchet(32.5 mm) My Overton book told me so. I was really ****ed off ( I was 17) and confronted my local dealer about the "countrfeit" coin. I made him refund the about $13 I paid for it. Hmmmmm, I wish I had kept it. It was a contemporary (Made Back Then) counterfeit. I thought he was trying to pull one over on me. He had no clue. It was a coin he bought in a collection, and then sold to me. These contemporary (Made back in the day) counterfeits are collectibles in themselves. I will buy this book, if I find it.....
Libraries like those shown , show why this forum and exspecially the people in it are great at answering mine and others peoples questions , If I ever have a question on Bust Halves I ask Ben , counterfiets Hobo , gold Spock , general GD , others who need advice on cents AJ , I could go on and on , but the one thing these people have in common they read a lot , they live by the motto , buy the book before the coin , this site has inspired me to buy more books in the few months I've been here than the 40 years previous , a big thanks to everybody on this site and the people who've helped me , & who I've forgot to mention , Thanks .:hail: rzage:smile:hatch::hammer:
