    Hey John,

Glad to see you here. I must say the book by your dad tales from the bourse was one of the best books i have ever read. I also happen to be a very happy customer of DLRC. I would strongly suggest you guys expand into indian coins it will make lives of the collectors in that field easier. we are starved for a quality source for coins at reasonable prices :)

Wish you the best with DGS

That would not surprise me at all. In fact there is a way to tell this by the number they assign to the slab. I believe all coins submitted by DLRC have a D as the last digit in the alphanumeric character sequence on the slab. I have a coin like this.

Thanks! Indian Eagles are my favorite series as well. Finding nice coins is a huge problem there -- no question. That's why we don't have more of them in inventory. By the way, my second-favorite coin in the entire Richmond Collection was the 1933 Ten. I put it on the cover of the Richmond I catalog. (First favorite coin was the 1894-S dime!).

I never thought I would get my answers directly from John F.

Thank you for posting sir, and I would like to say that I am enjoying my coins graded by DGS. Only have 2 so far, but I look forward to getting some more in hand.

I got some opinions on the only Morgan Dollar you all have graded MS67. I would love to hear what you have to say about it. I don't own the coin, just putting the visual population report up to the experts here.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

my mistake. i should have understood that from your icon. however, you threw me a curve with the picture of the 1913 $10!

I don't specifically recall the coin but I just looked the image up and it does look like it has a bit of chatter but I suspect the image doesn't do the coin justice. The coin comes from a successful cross-over from an NGC MS67 slab actually. I think the tick on the cheek must be in the image and/or slab -- not the coin.

I looked on the internet, there have been various articles written about them, if you want info you can find it. I take most of it at face value. It is easier assume they are telling the truth than lying...why would they do this? I know all TPG's are not exactly honest, but DLRC/ DGS has a reputation to maintain. No one would go to their auction site if they burned the collecting world by telling lies about DGS.
I am not really gun hoe DGS, but I have admitted I would like them to succeed in their endeavors for a few reasons. They have fair prices without membership fee's et cetera, and they are very close to where I live (Virginia Beach). Naturally I would rather pay less, and get things back quicker.
My real aim is to create intelligent debate about the subject, and find out what other people have to say. I have no reason to "promote" DLRC/ DGS in any way, although, personally I like both companies. This also means I am interested in them, particularly DGS, so that is why I bring the subject up.
I get frustrated like you when people don't back up their info with cold hard facts, or don't take the time to be specific about what they are claiming. I will try to include numbers from now on.

From John's post it would seem like they are getting a fair number of subbmissions which is a good thing. He also mentioned the obvious benefits of being able to sell DGS material through DLRC.

Like I already have said... I started this thread to talk about how a new company could stir up the market. Hypothetically speaking if they did grade a little more conservatively how would this change things?

I do not really believe that DGS IS THAT COMPANY per se, but they are an easy target becuase they are a new TPG, and they seem to grade pretty acurately IMO. So I just kind of filled in the blanks to make the story better.

    Ryan,
Don't take me wrong---most likely I'll send some coins to DGS for slabbing, but I'm going to wait around and see how the market takes to them. While I send very few coins for slabbing, I want them to be slabbed by a company that the market accepts and that I'll be able to sell easily.

I must say that unless you are talking about SGS, most all of the Grading Co's have the same problem...a reputation. PCGS and NGC both have a large reputation....maybe even bigger than DGS and DLRC, that they have to watch very closely.

I've bought a few coins off DLRC, and have sold some to them as well. They sell (and buy) top notch coins. The reason I don't buy more from them is that their prices are normally alittle higher than I would pay elsewhere. This is NOT DLRC's problem...but it is caused by bidders, and reserves, and I can't blame them.

I wish John and the guys at DGS the best---they have an uphill battle, but they know that better than I do... :D I hope John stays around here at CT and joins in the topics!

Oh No -- nothing wrong, quite the contrary. I was just impressed that you knew the owner of DGS Grading. :thumb:

Thought David Lawrence was the CEO? Anyway, it's pretty cool he'd come on here and that Speedy (apparently) knew him.

I only know two 'Luminaries' in the hobby; Steve Herrman and Alan Hebert.

    Nope---don't know him....
I guess what you meant was where I called him John....sorry if that sounded odd, but around these parts it's just normal for people to be called by their first name. You wouldn't believe the number of people that tell me not to call them Mr Brown, or Mr Jones, but just Bill or Ted.

It's also a point that talked about in the marketing world all the time. People tend to like it when you are personal, and friendly when talking with them. This includes calling them by their first name. (as long as they don't request otherwise)

If John has a problem with me doing so I'll be most happy to change ;)
