1943 copper penny?

    I found it in my grandfather's wheat collection while separating and putting in rolls for him. It weighs 3.11 and isn't magnetic but its hard to make out the date.. it looks like it says 1943 to me but wanted to see what you guys thought. Thanks.

    The date could be just about anything in that state. That last figure could be a 2, or a 9, or a ζ. If it ever was a 1943 copper cent, it's too badly damaged now to convince anyone.

    Agree with @-jeffB. That thing is a hunk of junk at this point.

    Nowhere near a 1943 copper cent. A copper cent yes but not a '43.

    Ashley keep searching your grandfathers collection there must be something good.... well every peace is good it’s your grandfathers.... but don’t be afraid to post and ask questions!!

    Woe, looks like it may have been in a soldiers pocket. But, I'm seeing more of an 8 as your last digit. I just Love the Wheat pennies..

    The damaged coin on the scale is not a 43, perhaps a 42.
    The other 1943 in the OP appears to be plated over.
