Well (taps foot impatiently), where are the other two? . I was watching several coins. Was sitting in the room when there was a rather fun bidding war over a William and Mary 5 guinea. First two groups in the room, then a phone bidder. It was what a consigner's dream was made of. Went for a tad over the high estimate of $200K (as in, over $300K including buyer's premium). Needless to say I was sitting very still and on my hands--one of the live bidders was sitting behind me, a few rows back and the first time the auctioneer pointed in my direction I had a minor palpitation even though logically I knew it was silly, the visceral 'oh poop' feeling was fleeting but real.
Yes, I saw the action as an "internet" bidder. That WilliamIII/Mary AV 5 Guineas went for $312K! I could kick myself, I had opportunity to have gotten a MS William/Mary AV 5 G in 2014 as an unsold lot for 12.5 UK Pounds. I did not have the funds/ should have gotten bank loan/ and bought it....what a stupid mistake. PS: I posted second coin (Clemente VII) AV Scudo d'oro/ I will post third coin under Paul III Scudo d'oro later!
I was in the room for the sale of the W&M 5 guineas. Impressive coin. An elephant and castle type, if I recall.
I used to do snow/ gave it up. But you gotta give me a break, I work full tilt from April to December in my lawn/ garden job/ dusk to dawn/ seven days a week! I think i deserve the Winter off But you are 100 percent right, I love collecting coins a LOT!
